We just came back from 4 days in Weißenkirchen in der Wachau. We are somewhat of a food snob from Southern California and had a difficult time finding good places to eat during our 3 wks in Central Europe (Prague, Vienna, Budapest). I would have to say Heinzle was a rare exception. We went on our first night stay in Weißenkirchen at the recommendation of our hotel hosts. The waterfront location was something special. We were seated without a reservation (first in a not so nice location, then quickly moved to a perfect spot to enjoy the Danube).Salad, two entrees, two drinks under $50. I would say something comparable in Los Angels (say Malibu, would easily double that without the picturesque Danube view/vibe). We knew we were at an authentic local gem of a restaurant when the check came without a service fee (most nicer or hotel run restaurants in the Wachau valley came with a 10% service fee). We were pleasantly surprised when the server was overly pleased with a 20% tip. All in all a very satisfying experience. The only regret was that we didn't get a chance for a return visit since they close on Mon & Tues.

Right at waters edge offering a great view of the river and surrounding area. We were seated immediately and made to feel right at home. We ordered a glass of wine and a beer while looking over the menu. After picking out a couple of dishes and ordering we discovered the restaurant is primarily fresh fish! Although the breaded and deep fried blood pudding was good and the potato salad with just a touch of vinegar, it could not compare to the visual of fish being brought out! My wife ordered the schnitzel with potato and it too was excellent. Primarily locals even though a bit higher than normal for lunch still a great place to enjoy. The service was friendly and professional and not a bit rushed although there were no empty tables. Enjoy the serenity of flowing water!

Went here as part of our walking holiday to celebrate my wife's birthday. Read the reviews and a local guide book that recommend it. Well I walked straight out after being seated. The staff were rude when we asked for a table. We then asked for an English menu (EVERY place we have been has had either an English menu or an extremely kind waiter who has translated for us). The response I got was like I had insulted them for asking. Maybe it was because of my request or the colour of my skin. I'm a human being and I have mibey to spend. I wouldn't bother going here, people like this do not deserve your money.

We happened upon this restaurant while biking on the Danube. It was an excellent place to eat with very fine wine, and the garden where we had lunch was beautiful and filled with flowers. We tried to go back for dinner, but it was closed for a wedding. This one is not to be missed.
