A group of 10 of us (all ages) went to Herongate to celebrate my father's 80th birthday. We went on a Sunday and were pleasantly surprised that it wasn't too crowded (I had read some reviews complaining about the wait for food, etc.) We all enjoyed the food (GREAT salad bar with tons of options,) although larger plates would be helpful. The hot buffet is served to you cafeteria-style. The food was really good - roast beef, chicken, potatoes, vegetables, rice, etc. Enough variety for everyone (we had to vegetarian guests dining with us.) During dinner there was a piano player which was nice as the volume was fairly low and we could still carry on conversations. After dinner they provided more...

Perfect setting in a barn with full authenticity as they changed as little as possible converting the barn to a restaurant at the bottom and theatre on top. Even down to the names on the horse stalls. Plenty of parking. Buffet salad soup and main course with lots of variety and it's all delicious. More like the fare at home than on a typical restaurant menu. Good value for money. The layout in the restaurant area is awkward, not flowing, and there are some tight walking spaces, long line for main course, but that's all part of the atmosphere. All staff is extremely courteous and friendly. Fully enjoyable. Afterward, a play up in the theatre. Also good but not part of this review. We've been...

We all described the meal as a good home cooked meal. There is plenty of food and it is of decent quality. There is a basic salad bar, a few main course options, and a selection of desserts. You can have as much food as you like. So leaving hungry is your own fault. The ambiance of the dining area is nice and feels homey. After the meal there is live music. It definitely caters to a 50 plus crowd. It was of decent quality as well. The show I saw was Sylvia. The play was well done and the acting was what I expected. Not great but good. The value is reasonable. We got a $16 off coupon and it was $130/couple including tax and tip. All in all I was satisfied with the evening and will go again.

We attended the Herongate dinner show April 1st and the show was amazing and well done. My recommendation is don't go for dinner go to a nice restaurant of your choice and then go to the theatre there. It is expensive and they didn't have enough chicken for everyone unless you were at the beginning of the line. The roast beef was very fatty. All the vegetables were in flavoured oil, like the peas and corn, and everything had a sauce on it. You had to get your own ice water in cheap plastic cups...not impressed. Go to dinner in Pickering first and then scoot up for the show! You will be happy your did.

I've read the reviews that refer to the food here as "home cooked." Well, if you like everything over done, I guess this would be for you. I found the roast beef to be over cooked. There wasn't a medium piece to be found and the brussel sprouts were so soft it was hardly necessary to chew them. The play was pretty good. If you could just get tickets for the show and not have to pay for dinner, I would go again. But the food, isn't worth the price.

This was my third visit to herongate. My first two visits were excellent. The food was delicious and the shows were hilarious. However, this visit fell short. The vegetables were over cooked and the other items were ok. They list gin and vodka martinis on the menu button do not have green olives to go with. The show was good but not the good belly laugh I was looking for. I do enjoy herongate and will go back.

I went on another bus trip to Herongate for a Sunday afternoon outingThe food at the restaurant was as good as I'd remembered. The play Sinners was also good but I actually preferred the other presentation, little scenes

This place is a gem, we have visited many times over the years, the food is wonderful and the entertainment in the lovely theatre is the best. You are served by some of the actors prior to the show.

an old barn turned theatre and buffet. Good price, good food, great atmosphere! The live show is usually comedy and what a laugh.
