You won't get warm dishes. But you will get a refined Heurigen fare at a very nice place. I know most of the Heurigen in the Mautern area. None of them ever disappointed me. So it is with this in mind I write about Heurigenkeller Graf. I have been there many times since 2010. Heuriger means the young wine from the preceding season. Its sale for consumption at the grower's place is regulated by law to protect ordinary restaurants from competition. A major restriction is that the wine is only allowed to be sold with cold food. So you will be usually offered cold meats, fish, cheese, vegetable plates, sandwiches, etc., and a variety of bread. In spite of the restriction there is ample room for variation. Another important restriction is that a Heuriger is not allowed to provide continuous service. That is, it has to be closed for a coiuple of periods per year. In contrast to the other Heurigen of the larger Mautern area Heurigenkeller Graf, while closed for certain periods, is open more often and for longer periods than the other Heurigen I know. So there is a reasonable good chance that it is open when you will be in the area. In summertime you can sit in the open on a terrace overlooking the Danube. In wintertime you are offered an indoors table. If you are lucky you will get one near the chimney. The place is run by a lady and her son. The service is as good as you can expect at such a place. While clearly more expensive than the other nearby Heurigen the dishes are still moderately priced and worth the extra expense. Parking is problematic. The entrance to Heurigenkeller is at a sharp left turn of the road for a car coming from Mautern. Don't try to stop there but go on for 50 m or so, there is a parking at the left side. If occupied, proceed for another 50 m over small bridge.to park your car.
