Himalaya Granville

Family from overseas wanted to have an Indian dinner and we came across the Himalaya. Had a bit of trouble finding the entrance as we walked up the road and saw that every door was locked shut and nobody in the area. Then we realised they had taken over shops and the main entrance was the first shop near the corner. This place is huge! With inter leading dining areas plus an upstairs function room it makes you wonder why they have all this space. It was a Thursday night and the main (front) area had a few tables full. The decor is "how's your father" and sparse. No matter, we were a party of 4 adults and two children. We were shown the menus, made our choice of 4 dishes, two rice and 4 naan bread. The food came pretty quickly and was delicious. The children loved their Butter Chicken and the adults tucked into lamb sagwala, beef nihari and prawn Karachi. Out standing! Service was good, friendly waitress.

Visite after a rugby match at the Olympic Park (10 min away), and was seated in one of the back rooms with several other tables. We arrived an hour in advance of hour reservation and only waited 10 minutes to be seated. Ordered several appetizers and entrees, all were excellent. Waitstaff were excellent. Tables and floors weren't very clean and there was an overall greasy "film" on everything, but easily overlooked with the hospitality and food quality.

Generally food is tasty and sometimes fresh unlike some other Indian restaurants who serve microwaved food which is cooked a few days ago when the chef is available, however I am seriously worried of the hygiene of the kitchen ( percieved) and the fat levels in the curries which is very high. I am going by the total lack of ambience in the restaurant and the greasy floors and lack of ventilation when I visit the place.

Desi dhaba ( road side Indian restaurant) with great food. Ambience is just below average but if you go in a group then I guess it doesn't matter much. Excellent customer service. Only place in Sydney where you can have desi food late night.

My friend and her family invited me to dine in this restaurant. What can I say about this restaurant? Simply the best food. That's all!!
