To start, we ordered miso soup and decided to try something unique: the Asian Pear Salmon. The miso soup was excellent, but the Asian Pear Salmon was somewhat disappointing due to its overpowering onion flavor, though the salmon itself was fresh and delicious.
Next, we sampled two types of Nori tacos: Wagyu Salt and Toro. Both were fantastic, and I highly recommend trying them.
We then indulged in five pieces of nigiri: Tuna, Uni, and a few others. While all were good, I’ve had better elsewhere. The rice didn’t seem consistent; the last piece served was perfect and warm, but the others fell short in comparison, although they were still rated an 8/10. This was one of those places I really wanted to like more than I actually did. We were fortunate to get a table quickly upon arriving, but we were informed that we needed to return it in an hour. Given that, we decided to stick with appetizers. We already knew the menu would be on the pricier side, but it was still quite shocking. We ordered the tuna tacos, miso soup, bao buns, and soup dumplings. None of the dishes really impressed me; in fact, I’d say they were about on par with what you could find frozen at Hmart and prepare yourself. The service was good, but to be honest, our waitress seemed a bit detached.
The restaurant has a lovely ambiance and the food is delicious, but I wouldn't recommend sitting near the kitchen. It gets incredibly hot and congested with staff moving about. We asked the manager to lower the temperature, but it remained uncomfortable. Unfortunately, this made for an unpleasant experience overall. It also felt like the staff was rushing us throughout the evening; they kept clearing our plates while we were still eating. Then, our waiter brought the check without even checking if we wanted dessert, prompting us to ask if we could place an order. This is my candid assessment.
Highlight is the spicy tuna roll… but mainly the new bartender who curated his specialty cocktail menu and it’s AMAZING. Everything is refreshing or savory and nothing is too sweet or too complex. The atmosphere was fantastic, the food was delicious, and the service was excellent. Prices are typical for Greenwich. Overall, I was very satisfied and would definitely return.
Visiting Hinoki was the best experience ever. The food was very tasty and was incredible. I recommend this place to everyone.
The food was amazing, but the staff was just as impressive, especially Jose, who I believe is one of the managers!
