In my worldly travels, I ran across this little place, a bit off the beaten path from the interstate, however, these are usually the best finds. So I gave them a whirl. Place was clean with ample parking, has 2 entrances at the front, leftside is the restaurant and the roughshod is the bar/tavern. This place serves alcohol, but was a neat rustic atmosphere on the inside, very cool. Old timey tin on the ceiling in the restaurant side, board and batten walls very neat. I wanted a Bison burger, but was informed they were out and on backorder, so I got a cheeseburger with with everything on it and onion rings. Hadn't been here in a year or two. Like everyone else they are short staffed. Drinks are fine. Ordered Rib Eye Steak dinner med rare came out well done. Re ordered and it was med rare but tough. Wife had ribeye sandwich, was really good had been marinated and was tender. Something irksome, they charge extra for every item you add to your sandwich, Mayo lettuce, tomato anything you add is between 45 cents and 70 cents extra. Pretty bad when the sandwich is already $12.95. Also restrooms were dirty. The table was cleared quickly.
What happened to this place? So many menu items were unavailable that it was hard to order! Pork chop special was not special and overpriced at $18.99 for chop, instant mashed potatoes, green beans, and beer bread. No substitutions. Plus, my chop came out barely warm and fatty with gristle throughout. Our beer bread and daughter 's side salad didn 't make it to the table, but we were charged. Such a shame because this used to be a gem! Did management change? We, sadly, won 't be back.
Worst experience ever! What happened to Hornville we used to love? I would rate the food, but we NEVER GOT IT (after waiting 1 hour and ten minutes after ordering). Four tables that arrived after us got their orders. We came for the smoked chicken Monday special: they were out, so we ordered sandwiches. Womens' bathroom has 4 stalls: two were out of order, one was full of sh#¥, only one worked: filthy. Would give zero stars if possible. We'll not be going back any time soon.

We had lunch here last week. Upon walking in, one of the waitresses was clearly put out about our group coming to dine there. Luckily, we ended up with another server who was kind and attentive. Food was ok but some items came out cold. The rudeness from the first employee we encountered soured the overall experience and makes it unlikely we would return.
Been here 2-3 times with my sister-in-law her husband, Jim Laura Richie-Runion, and every time I am blown away by how good their back ribs are!! I’m from Atlanta, GA, we know Bar-B-Q. Give the Tavern a try, if you haven’t already!
Excellent, energetic service and equally fine diner/tavern style food. The pulled pork sandwich and smoked chicken entres were delicious. The mashed potatoes appear to be instant and not real.
Excellent. Country fried steak, fried chicken, and thick pork chop all great. Beer bread to die for. German potato salad homemade and delicious.

Great food and service. Shared a breaded tenderloin and a ribeye steak sandwich with my gal and both were outstanding. Friendly service.
Hornville is always a great choice! Haven't had a bad dish. Love their twice baked potatoes. Wished they were available daily.
