Well... we've just climbed into bed at the Hostellerie after a dinner at the gastronomic restaurant. I am a chef and was excited for this dinner. The sommelier was outstanding... Joelle could not have done a better job and since we paired different wines with each course +++ it was a big job!In keeping with my mother's mantra... if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all... I have no more thoughts on the rest of the staff in the dining room. Our meal was mediocre at best. There was no shining star, no exclamation of delight ...not much of anything. I am totally shocked that this restaurant has been given a Michelin star. I wanted to love it!I was so prepared to love it. I'm sorry but I really didn't.To be fair, we ordered a la carte.... we've been traveling for three months and didn't feel like a full menu. Maybe this was our mistake but, I feel if you have one bite in a Michelin starred restaurant it should shine.... this star doesn't .

If oozing charm is your need... rthan this place , in its setting is hard to beat. It's a toss weather its closer to Marseilles or Toulon, but it certainly is right on the mark for exploring the delights of Sanary Sur Mer, cassis and Bandol... For this visit we left Marseilles alone. Our room is a pleasant mix of classic & contemporary furnishings, terracotta floors and a oh-so comfy bed, neutral colours with a view over the beautiful vinyards and pool. Privacy is assured and the ambience pleasant. Entry is pure drama or perhaps more operatic, as the hostess with the mostest, Daniele makes one feel like relatives. Later we meet the ebullient Rene and the rest of the family. The bistro was epic with Provencal cuisine amped contemporary , proving where its Michelin star came from. The spa is where we socialised the most, surrounded by trompe l'oeil and frescos .

I just had a very long lunch at Berard restaurant and must say I was rather disappointed by the combination of flavours and the service. The air con was not sufficient either to equally cool down the whole room. And their comfortable chairs should be upholstered with breathable fabric and not plastic! The restaurant was half empty so not busy at all and yet we had to wait for an hour to get our first starters! Then I filled myself with bread in between meals as they would be served at so long intervals. The waiters were quite active and efficient though. All the ingredients were interesting however they were not paired in a way that they would reveal their flavours and make a refined result. Quite disappointing when the bill amounts to nearly 200€ and they forget to give you the mignardises with your coffee. There is definitely room for improvement.

As part of a large group eating here recently, I found their service efficient, professional and friendly. The food for a large function was necessarily perhaps slightly different to that which someone booking privately would have, but the quality was solid and consistent. It is situated at the back of a rather small and unassuming frontage on a pretty little street. If you are being taken there for dinner, as I was, it's worth taking some time out to wander nearby if just for a few minutes.
