I won't be able to tell much about the rooms and food in this hotel because it was in the first place made us impossible to stay there by the owner, a middle-aged woman who seems to think it is normal to insult her clients. We arrived there in the evening after a long travel and were looking forward to a warm welcome in a cozy environment. We were far from expecting what would follow.We had been asked to tell our arrival time, which was quite difficult because of the long distance we had to drive to get there but had nevertheless complied with this request. We came half an hour later than our reported arrival time but we had tried several times to call the hotel to inform them about that. We were never able to reach the owner but were connected with an answering machine instead and finally decided to leave a message. When we arrived at the property, we rang the bell but nobody came. I went to inquire in the village while my wife stayed at the front-door. Eventually the owner showed up, talking to us in a very rude way and saying we should have phoned her. When we said we did, she answered that she never answered phone calls when the phone number of the caller was not visible and kept asking us where we came from, insinuating we must come from a very uncivilized country not to know that. Flabbergasted by so much rudeness towards visitors we decided to leave and to look for a better accommodation. This was quite a challenge because we had booked two rooms for five persons, including a child aged two, and now had to find an alternative at the very last moment. However we managed to find an apartment in the nearby city of La Roche-sur-Yon and everything was fine there. But we have not yet forgotten the terrible experience we had with hôtel des voyageurs in Saint-Florent-des-Bois and still find it difficult to believe travelers can be treated so outrageously.
We have often eaten at the Voyageurs when in the area. The staff are friendly, and the plat du jour is good value. It is used by workers on their lunch break as well as couples, families and friends. The menu tends to stay the same ( more or less), but the dish of the day varies.
