After a few hours exploring this wonderful walled town, where the kids loved walking the castle walls and exploring tunnels and alleyways and parents enjoy the arts and crafts shops in the converted stables, it was time for some food.We (2 families - 4 adults, 4 kids) walked in with no booking, but with no trouble some tables were rearranged to accommodate us. This is a truly french experience as the menu is in French and the owner a lovely lady has little English. But with some perseverance, some humour and some Google translate everything was fine. Kids menu is basic but food very good the grilled fish was particularly good. As for the adults the oysters were exceptional as is to be expect...

This is my second visit to hotel Brouage. It's pretty easy to find in the Main Street. We were greeted well and enthusiastically. We were a. Family of 4, 3 vegetarians which is not always an easy ask in France! One had tartines to start which was very posh cheese on toast, blue cheese on French bread with a wonderful salad. Two had the vegetarian special which is just a lovely idea, nut roast, roast potatoes, different veg, little rice, etc a lovely mixed plate which was more than satisfying and the final person had cod with a spicy sauce. The food was lovely and served in suitable time. The meal with drinks came to €70. This is a hidden gem, lovely people and superb food.

We wanted to visit the town to see the walls around it and to walk them, which we did after lunch at this restaurant. We started our meal with 8 oysters each, followed by cod in an almond butter sauce with grilled potatoes and vegetables. I had a Millefeuille with strawberries and my husband had the chocolate cake. We also had a coffee. Not a particularly busy day and plenty of staff, but the service was very slow when it came to the desserts and coffee in fact we had to ask for a coffee as it wasn't offered.

This is a wonderful place to steep yourself in everything French. The people are wonderful, the menu is wonderful French food, and the ambience is amazing. The food was definitely worth the 30 minute drive we made to get there. If you are in the area it is worth a visit, as is Briuage itself. Be prepared to really test your French language, but in the nicest possible way.
