We were a group of ladies and looking forward to a nice traditional Xmas lunch Xmas market weekend in Willisau). Had been here yrs ago and were very happy with the great setting, atmosphere, food. This year however, we we placed in a...big room upstairs which had zero atmosphere. They attempted to make up for this with accordion players. They started at around just as we were beginning our meal. It was so loud that making conversation was just impossible. We were told they would be there for just minutes, but that was a lie or was it meant to be a joke It went on all through the meal so we left as soon as we finished eating. Veg choice was limited. When I asked if the ham could be omitted from my meal because I just wanted the side dishes a sauerkraut, beans, potatoes, was told Sorry, that would stress out the kitchen. So I had to have the meat on my plate. Not all vegetarians would be happy about something like this
This Whitsunday's lunch was really Special: firstly because of the re-opening after corona shutdown, secondly over coaches saluted on the nearby street, thirdly before leaving there was a carillon playing 'Elise' which saw us off. And to top the great lunch a steadily murmuring...water next to our table accompagnied the delicious lamb with vegetables and French fries. Without ordering we were served a surprise apero, self made sesam bread and to conclude we were offered a house drink which was of course very pleasant to taste! The waitress, able to speak five languages, was another big surprise
Next to the historic townc center of Willisau, there is a new kid in town. The "Gasthof zum Mohren" an old style traditional restaurant seemingly under new management. The service is fast, friendly and the food is good and for Switzerland moderately prized. There are...several daily three-course menus and a large a la carte choice
