I parked on main street, and upon walking up to the House of Buddha, I honestly thought it was shut down. There was sticky paper half way up the window, so you could not see inside. I saw that the OPEN sign was lite up, so I tried the door. It was unlocked, so I walked in. A man came from the back, and I said are you open (still not convinced they were open for business, because there was not a single person in the restaurant) He asked if I was here for pickup. I said no, but I would like to get takeout, if possible. I asked him if they are the same owners (I lived in Georgetown from 1988-1997) he said 'Oh yes, long time". I placed my order. I sat in the chair at the front, looking around. I looked up at the little curtains around the top of the window and thought for sure they had been there for at least 20 years and I don't think they have ever been cleaned. I saw the Health Department "PASS" certificate on the wall, and the certificates of being voted "Best Chinese Food in Georgetown", for many years. I walked out of there with less of an appetite, then when I walked in ... and I hadn't eaten anything yet. I drove back to Mississauga, still hoping that the food was as good as I remembered enjoying for so many years. The servings were generous. The Beef Fried Rice was blah, (way too many beansprouts for my liking). The sweet and sour pork was just okay, but the Cantonese Chow Mein was really good ... lots of shrimp (it also had that fake crab meat, which I had never had in my Cantonese Chow Mein before), broccoli, BBQ pork and other good stuff. To sum it up, the atmosphere was horrible. The place is rundown and honestly, if I had not eaten there or gotten take out for so many years, I definitely would not have walked through that door. If I did, I would have walked right back out again.RENOVATE your restaurant or there is no way you are going to get new customers. It seems like all the other shops on Main Street have updated their look ... now it's your turn !!!
