A thoroughly enjoyable experience. Quality food and top notch service were our experience. The mushroom soup was perfectly balanced with flavors. The beef, chicken, and vegetable, all cooked tender and juicy. The salad and avocado were served fresh and unblemished. For those who consume alcoholic beverages I highly recommend the Fuki Plum Sake, as was recommended to me by our server. Smooth, fragrant, sweet, and a wonderful pairing to the food we ordered... It would also make for a satisfying dessert just on its own. When passing through Evanston we will definitely eat here again. I can't wait to try other menu items!Vegetarian options: Many vegetarian options available.Kid-friendliness: Kid menu...

4.4/5In a place where dining expectations might be modest, Ichiban emerges as a champ. Surrounded by acres of blacktop and an unassuming exterior, the restaurant juxtaposes its exterior with a clean, well-decorated interior. The menu is familiar American-style Japanese with an array of rolls and signature dishes. A highlight for me was the commendable presentation and quality. A small caveat to my overall satisfaction was the overly salty fried calamari. Despite that, it retained its crispness and flavor. The staff is not only plentiful but also amiable, efficient, and ever eager to assist.Ichiban is more than just a pit stop in Evanston; it’s a delight that promises a pleasant surprise. Just had a disappointing experience at Ichiban; curious given the jubilant reviews below. Service was rushed and unfriendly. The Chef's Special had a simple miso soup upfront (in Japan you get that at the end of the meal), a bowl of iceberg lettuce with a plain sauce, and the terriyaki NY tenderloin with steamed rice and asparagus. The asparagus tips were nicely al dente, the lower asparagus halves were too hard. The tenderloin consisted of unruly chunks of meat, overcooked and too dry. The terriyaki sauce was a bit watery. The rice was ok though. All in all, not a nice meal. On the floor under the table were leftover sushi; we noticed too late ...

Takes FOREVER for a large group (although 35 might be a little too large of a group for ANY restaurant to handle), but I think the food is worth it. about $20-$30 for a combo plate (and you NEED to share, SO MUCH FOOD, drinks about $10-15) Our guy did a great job, they just seem to struggle with large groups, one half of our table was done eating when the other half was barely getting water service. We even had some of our group walk out. We might try the mexican restaurant next year. It's still a fun experience though, and the food is quite good, so you make the decision. What a great gem in Evanston! I had hibachi lunch there three or four times over the time of my project there. Every time, it was really quite delicious. The most recent time was definitely my best. I got the filet mignon lunch special (for $14.95! and the meat was very tender and very flavorful! The rice was run of the mill and so were the veggies. Nothing spectacular. But the mushroom broth it hit the spot! It was just the right amount of umami and salty for me. I could've drank a whole cup of that!

Food was great, service was lacking, we informed the server it was our first time at this place and he did not recommend anything, all our rolls came out on the same plate and we didn’t know what roll was what and he never asked if we wanted more drinks? Or any dessert? Just sat the bill down and so we paid and he brought the receipt without even saying thank you, this is unacceptable for someone who spent over $200 for 2 people.

What a great experience. We stopped here on the way home to Salt Lake City from Grand Teton. I got the tempura shrimp bento box that came with California sushi, rice, soup, and more. It all tasted good bring an appetite as their serving size was quite large, even for lunch. If you are going through Evanston on a trip, you should definitely consider dining here. It is a true small town gem of a restaurant.

Sashimi is very good and fresh giant pieces. Cooked food is not my cup of tea. I wanted medium rare steak it was over well and too salty. The lobster was cooked to rubber and over seasoned..rice was bland vegetables overcooked..miso soup out of a package freeze dried and tepid at best. The manager did offer to redo it and took it off my bill. So sashimi was dinner. Reserva una mesa ahora

Absolutely fantastic, as always. The food is delicious, with many unique offerings. The BBQ squid and nagimakii are personal favorites. All of the sushi rolls are banger.
