Il Caravaggio Restaurant

Stopped in on a lovely Friday night at the height of the summer season. No tables inside, but a spot outside would do fine. My order was taken in a reasonable amount of time, my beer arrived, and my plate of capuns (delicious) also appeared pretty much on cue.That, alas, was the last time I saw my waiter. I'd like to have had a dessert and some espresso, but fat chance of that. Apparently, these folks were caught off guard by the arrival of, you know, CUSTOMERS. They had two, count 'em, two waiters taking care of all the inside and outside tables, and, it would appear, preparing some of the food, as well. I actually had to go inside and make myself rather unpleasant, just to pay my check. I was sorely tempted simply to wander away down the street. No "dine and dash" required - it might have been hours before they realized I was gone.So, is this a good place for a meal? Well, yes, as long as you have a day or two to kill.

Nice varied menu - mostly Italian, with local specialties like capuns - and extensive wine list. Unlike many places, this is open all afternoon into evening. We arrived at the Hotel Allegra next door around 2 pm. We were able to get a fine late lunch at Caravaggio. We also returned for dinner another night. Fine dining with casual atmosphere

We had wonderful unhurried meal. We had risotto and lasagna for dinner, after starting with a fabulous bruschetta. All were excellent and service was charming. We enjoyed so much we returned for lunch before leaving Pontresina. Lunch on the patio enjoying the food and sunshine was perfect!

The services is exactly right. Very nice and not to pressure. The food was very good as well. The onion soup has a nice tqist with the crust

local dishes like Capuns are excellently prepared at reasonable prices, the restaurant has a good ambiente and excellent staff
