One would forgive that East Switzerland was all about Veal (OLMA) Bratwurst and Rösti (Hash Browns), but one would be wrong. I am constantly surprised by the quality of Italian cuisine in St. Gallen. Il Castello is one of my favorites. The pizzas are excellent (and inexpensive according to local standards) and the various traditional Italian specialities are equally good. During two visits I had the spaghetti Bolognese and the Pizza Prosciutto. My companion had the pizza Gorgonzola and we were both impressed. I'm not a wine drinker, but as my companion, the Italian and a wine-snob, he was offered an excellent Sicilian wine, which he tells excellently. Il Costello will be a regular station when I'm in town.
a good pizzeria with beautiful seating outside and cozy places inside. eating is good, the prices are moderate. located just outside the center, in a residential area, about 15min to the center. The numerous free parking spaces that belong to the restaurant are particularly advantageous.
