J. Gilbert’s – Wood Fired Steaks Seafood Mclean

We have been going to J Gilbert 's for our special occasions for decades. Always tasty well prepared food that I would NEVER be able to duplicate anywhere else. However, the last few times, the wait staff, especially out waiter, have been very slow or nonexistent. This time was for my husband 's birthday. It took several minutes before our waiter came to our table. Nice, affable person. We ordered right away, because we KNEW that there was a chance we would get slow service again. My husband ordered an iced tea, and we had to catch our waiter 's eye several times, and it only showed up when our main course appeared. Caesar Salad had wilted and brown lettuce. It was drenched in dressing to try and cover up the poor quality ingredients. The dressing was also sub par. Charcuterie board was a mess. Rubbery meats that were thick and hard to chew, two small pieces of basic cheese, it was genuinely sad. The prosciutto ... what an atrocity Honestly the worst I 've ever seen anywhere. Steak was average. Potato was very large but had a slight bit of cheese, butter, bacon as if they were rationing this stuff off. I could continue but frankly it feels mean at this point. Service was ok for an applebees but at a steakhouse you need to remove the used dishes before you bring out the next course. When the main meal is...

Food was good, but overpriced for what it was. Waiter was very friendly, but kept forgetting about us. It took 25 minutes to get a glass of wine and we waited all dinner to get more water, although he offered it 3 times. It took over an hour to get our meals after we were seated with a reservation on a Monday night. Unfortunately had a similar experience last time we were there on a Saturday.

This was our first time visiting this restaurant and we were not disappointed! Everything was outstanding…the food, service, and ambiance. J Gilbert’s is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is consistently excellent, the service is efficient and pleasant, and the ambiance is nice. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I love J. Gilbert’s! It is reliably good. My favorite restaurant in McLean. The only issue I had was that the parking lot had NO spaces available when I arrived at 12:50.
