I decided to wander around town in search of a decent restaurant. To be honest I wasn't really sure what I wanted. I started first with the internet and keyed in 'Italian restaurants in Dusseldorf' but the best ones, according to Trip Advisor, were a good 25-minute walk away (excluding Da Bruno, which was closed) and I really wasn't inspired enough to go on some kind of trek. Close to my hotel I found Jaipur, an Indian restaurant. I wanted to get off the street and into somewhere cosy where I could chill for a while. Jaipur seemed to fit the bill, but it wasn't cosy enough, it simply didn't cut the mustard. First I ordered a Warsteiner but was given a Paulaner – odd when Warsteiner is advert...
Often when you travel abroad and try Indian food, it's modified to suit local tastes and is bland. We requested the very friendly owner Charanjit to make it spicy and got some great stuff. The paneer pakodas had soft paneer and the mix veg pakodas were also good. The baingan bharta that we ordered along with aloo gobhi was nice and spicy. So was the daal tadka. Portions were small. When we mentioned this to the owner, he immediately very sweetly offered to give us more of whatever we wanted and also gave rice on the house. Was a nice experience and recommended.
I love this place. The english-speaking owner and staff are super friendly and the food is nothing else than excellent. Everytime we went there, the restaurant was crowed with indish guests. Thats why I suggest the food to be authentic. Some of the vegetable dishes are vegan or can be made vegan upon request. (The waiters know the ingredients of the dishes and know what vegan means). If you order a spicy dish they adjust it to your wish from non-spicy to really really spicy. Our friends told us that the meat-based dishes are also extremly delicious.
The restaurant has few tables and the ambiance is not all that. However the food was amazing. I would recommend asking the waiter when placing your order how HOT they curry you choose from the menu will be as some were blend and others were very spicy.I would recommend the Biryani as a add on for 4 paxI would recommend the indian desserts Kulfi after to soothe you after the spicy meal. Little restaurant not far from Düsseldorf train station. Usually Indian food in Germany is awful, but was very well surprised. I usually have a vindaloo, a very hot curry. The taste was good but I usually have it much hotter. I told the waiter who gave me another really hot sauce to mix with my curry. It was brilliant! So pleased with the food and the service, will definitely go back.
Decided to come to this restaurant after having too many pork knuckles. The place is very small but not cramped. Staff is very polite but the food is just okay. Biryani is tasty and flavorful. Curry is way too salty and lack of spices. Price is not cheap. You better go somewhere else.
