I can't understand how Jamaica Breeze doesn't have a perfect 5-star rating. I've seen past reviews mentioning poor service, but I completely disagree; my experience was fantastic. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the food was nothing short of amazing. I ordered the oxtail and brown stew chicken, which were so tender that they practically melted in my mouth. The rice and peas were cooked to perfection, and the steamed vegetables complemented the meal beautifully. Honestly, it's one of the best oxtail dishes I've ever tasted. If you're unsure about visiting, don't hesitate. This restaurant is absolutely worth every penny. Just remember to bring cash, as it's cash-only!
The food was disappointing. I ordered the Curry Chicken with rice, peas, and cabbage, but the chicken was bland and lacked freshness. It didn't have the authentic curry flavor that Jamaican food typically has. When Jamaican food is stored in the fridge overnight, it usually develops a distinct aroma and taste, but this dish did not. The cabbage tasted off, reminiscent of spoilage. Additionally, the restaurant was infested with hornets, which was unsettling. The excessive amount of oil in the dish was alarming and should have raised a red flag. The staff also had a poor attitude, and the prices felt inflated. I won't be returning.
Don't let the appearance deceive you! While there's no seating inside and it's cash only, the food is absolutely outstanding! I ordered the rice and peas with oxtail, and without me even asking, the friendly lady asked, “How much gravy do you want?” The rice and peas were delicious, and the oxtail was incredibly flavorful. This place definitely deserves five stars. I parked just across the street. EDIT: I also tried a Jamaican cream soda!
4/10. I felt shortchanged. It seems like only Caucasian customers rated this place with 5 stars. The price is reasonable, but honestly, the food is pretty mediocre and dry. The staff was extremely friendly and made me feel right at home, keeping me entertained with laughter during my entire visit. Parking can be a bit challenging, which is typical for New York.
I visited Jamaica Breeze for breakfast but found myself wanting more. I ended up ordering patties and callaloo with boiled bananas from their menu instead.
Delicious food and friendly staff! I just wish there were tables and chairs available for dining inside. It's primarily grab-and-go.
