Joe's bar is part of the East Hotel's complex including Muse and Agnostinis Italian. The bar has high tables with bar stools and couch areas. Bit confusing when we ordered our drinks, we were told to go and sit down and the staff would find is, but my husband wasn't given a receipt or a table number. The staff did find us though! After ordering our drinks it took about 20mins to receive them. We couldn't wait 20mins for our next drink (Friday night, who can be bothered waiting) so we went elsewhere.
Trendy bar with a relaxed and cosy feel. Comfy couches and cool decor. Extensive cocktail and wine menu. I had a gin 'floral' cocktail ($16), which had edible flowers and was tasty and pretty. Also had a lovely glass of wine ($11). Drinks all presented really nicely and staff were friendly and helpful. Had a yummy popcorn covered in cheese and herbs while we had a few drinks (complimentary). Drinks are pricey, but nice place for a drink.
Hotel foyer bar/eateries have usually been a disappointing experience. This was something different. Joe's doesn't pretend to be fancy it delivers well cooked well priced food in a casual bar environment complimented by an interesting wine list with a reasonable selection of wines by the glass.You wouldn't travel across Canberra to get there but if staying in or close by it is worth a try.
I've been here thrice. Each time it has been for entrees. Never had a main. Latest was the Piatti do Joe and an Italian Sausage. None were complex, but each were executed as good as possible. Of particular note is the young lady, Tahney who is a very pleasant and informative server. She has some great skill in orchestrating the staff once it gets busy.

Really enjoyed the complimentary "Savoury Popcorn" and the service was excellent. The wine list is extensive and you can order by the glass. The food menu is tapas style and we ordered the olives and a small platter of meats and cheeses. It is very nice bar to relax and unwind.
This place should be good. It's the friendly face you approach with your glasses off, only to find that face is really a mannequin in the corner holding the hotel activities brochure. Just don't be caught looking too eager, the doors are close by. Embarrassment is left inside.
Cold meal servered. Credit to them for trying to fix it by replacing the meal; but they threw the steak in the oven and it came back as tough as leather.
Joe's has a great atmosphere of a cool hideawayWith an extensive drink list and small but delicious menu it is a hidden gem in the East Hotel.

Joe's bar and restaurant has delicious Italian food made with the freshest of produce. There's a great wine and beverage selection too.
