The server was nice and I feel bad she had to take our Calamari back. That said what is the restaurant thinking? We love this island and have had great experiences across the board including culinary but this was a joke.The beer and wine was fine and the beet salad was good albeit a little pricey for its size but the Calamari I can’t even lol…Check the two pics first is what the tried serving us with no dip, lemon or anything. We did not have a bite. The second is what typical calamari for the price looks like.Seriously, if you can’t make a dish up to par, don’t have it on the menu.Shame that we picked this place and others were open. Fantastic food with tons of gluten free options. Good portions, and high quality ingredients.Got the fish and chips and it was a very sizable and thick piece of fish. The seafood chowder was excellent and highly reccomended. Nashville hot chicken is also very decent.The desserts were all excellent, though one nitpick, the whipped cream is super fake and oil based, it is odd that they put so much work into excellent desserts to not put real whipped cream on it. I would highly reccomend the sticky toffee pudding or one of the daily pies. (The pie is the only non gluten free dessert though)Staff are friendly and environment is cool with live music. My recent visit to John Brown Grill left me quite satisfied. The friendly presence of our server, complete with a welcoming moustache, set a comfortable tone for the evening. The restaurant offered a range of familiar pub fare, with the wings standing out as a particularly enjoyable choice. We were recommended to eat here by the Fairholm Historic properties, they were right! There was a good choice of beers and ciders, and a wonderful choice of food. Almost everything could be adapted to be gluten free and our server, Emily E, talked my wife through the menu and gave recommendations. The bacon wrapped scallops were great and my wife really loved the GF fish chips, the Chowder was really filling. The next night we wanted a GF dessert and they were happy to serve us just that Thanks! There is great live music outside every evening which really made the night. Good location on Victoria row that we stopped in for some lite bites and beverages. Ambiance and service was good but food was very poor. JB Nachos were over cooked and I needed a chisel to eat them. Other tables did seem to have this issue as their nacho cheese was melted and not hardened up.The wings were also from miniature chickens and certainly didn’t seem like a pound. Also over cooked.Complained and bill was reduced. I’d rather have good food. Just seems hit and miss here for us. Béer was good at least.

Food Expeditor failure. Six for dinner and drinks. Three ordered the Fish Chips. Basic local fare menu item as stated on the menu consisting of fish, fries, coleslaw, and dilled tartar sauce. Couldn't believe that the kitchen sent out ALL THREE plates with, quite literally, less than one tablespoon of coleslaw per plate. Simultaneously funny and pitiful. If you're short on cabbage... for the love of all things holy, leave it off the plate and/or sub-out another option. Gheesh.

Good place for a drink but terrible for eating. We came since the reviews of the restaurant are great. Surprisingly, they couldn't even do a burger patty well. They served me dry, overcooked coals that tasted like bitter wood chips. I complained to the waitress about the burger. She just told me the patties should be cooked through. I have nothing to say. Never go again.

Stopped by to get out of the rain and grab dinner. After a short wait at the bar, and awesome Red Dirt Road Ale we started sharing mussels. Our lovely server, Bella, recommended the crab cakes, which were lovely, and we also had wonderful bacon wrapped scallops. Perfect amount of shared food very yummy! Overall, the food was good! Was a little disappointed in the lobster roll. Cost $29 and usually a lobster roll come a buttered roll, but it came on a hamburger bun and was very under seasoned and no flavor. The fish taco was good, and so was the mussle. Probably wouldn't or the lobster roll if I go back again!
