Finally got to check out Kampai. Word to the wise, don't try to come here without a reservation. My husband I tried to come here once before and they were packed. Now that I have been it's easy to see why. I was easily able to make a reservation for a Saturday the Tuesday beforehand. I left a message on their voicemail requesting a reservation and they called me back within a few hours. They also called the night before to confirm. We showed up on time and were seated at the hibachi within five minutes. The service was stellar. The food was amazing. They have a pretty large menu with lots of options to choose from. It got busy in there quickly, which means it got loud. That is to be expected...
Kampai is known in the area as a go to place for special occasions. It will cost more, but the Sushi bar area is fresh, delicious and has a good variety and the sushi chefs are friendly. The drinks are good. The Hibachi area allow you to select fresh food, which is tasty and cooked in front of you and others at the table by an always entertaining chef. There is also a regular table dining, but I have not eaten in that area. The ambiance is super friendly, with the owner/manager walking around and talking to guests and offering to take pictures, so you can remember your night.
I was a little disappointed with my experience. The drinks menu isn't updated and the drinks didn't match the description. The sushi came out kinda messy looking and unorganized. The food was a little too salty. Our waitress was also rushing us. We made a reservation for 6:30pm and they close at 9:30pm. The waitress kept on rushing us and didn't really answer our questions about the menu...
This place has been a family favorite since I was a kid. The sushi is great, the hibatchi is great and they also have traditional seating. I've had the entire menu and never been disappointed. You can't go wrong with this one. Make reservations if you want sushi bar or hibatchi seating.
