This was our first visit to Kansaku, and we were very pleased. The service was a bit slow, but that wasn't a problem because we had a lot of catching up to do. We had Sapporo Dark beer, edamame, and pickle to start. If you haven't had Japanese pickle, please! Give it a try. It is so yummy. We proceeded to order two rolls and some nigiri. Everything was very fresh and nicely presented. One roll we knew would be spicy, and the other we thought would not. However, it turned out they were both spicy. So read the menu carefully and ask your server.
Nice appearance to the restaurant. Food was as expected to slightly better than expected. Pricing was typical (though I hate the devices that encourage excessive tipping as a default). Service was a bit spotty and impersonal. So overall- typical dining experience at a decent to nice restaurant, but nothing memorable.
I've dined at Kansaku for the fourth time now, and as always, I found the atmosphere to be warm and inviting. The appetizers are delicious, and the maki rolls—especially the Lobster King and Carnival—are excellent! The service was both prompt and friendly. I will definitely be returning!

What can I say? This is a great place for sushi in Evanston. The service has been inconsistent recently, but I believe it's just a staffing issue from what I've observed.
