"Had lunch here following a hike from the Ahorn cable car. You need to go inside and order food from the kitchen. Previous comments I read led me to expect a long wait, but the meals were brought outside in only 10 minutes. It was a lovely day and quite busy, but plenty of room. Food was also really good and priced fairly for the location."

Moderate walk from the Ahron lift up to the Edelhutte, two different routes to take both offering a different experience. We took the right hand path up and around which is slightly longer however it is not as steep, plus you come across a handful of mini waterfalls which are are beautiful! (Also ideal for topping up water bottles!)The hut is lovely, offering a fair amount of seating with lovely views (with the weather is good!). Lots of traditional meals on offer, with drinks, beer... for those who deserve a reward, along with some snacks. I tried the goulash soup which was very nice, my partner tried the noodle soup, without meat (vegetarians are rare in Austria :P )Both a reasonable price and tasty, enough to refuel yourself before the walk back.Quick tip, if you plan on walking all the way down back to Mayrhofen from this point, following the sign which states 4 hours, please remember this is a medium route. It took us a few hours more than the stated as we stopped for photos/breaks, it was extremely steep in some parts, good footwear and balance is required! A long long long walk, but very rewarding, going down the side of the mountain, then into woodland track, there is also another hut about 1/2 way through before entering the woods which again, if you wish you can stop at.

Although it was our fourth visit to Mayrhofen, we had never visited the Edelhutte. We set ample time aside, and on the second day of our holiday, made the ascent, from the top station of the Ahornbahn.I have heard this described as an easy walk, but despite relatively good fitness, and experienced walkers, I would say that it is medium to challenging, particularly if you are not keen on narrow paths very close to steep drops (like my wife). But the whole family (including a ten year old boy and a six year old girl) made it up there. One tip I would give is that when the path branches, with one route continuing upwards, and the other dropping across a flatter route, you continue going upwards. We didn’t, and the steep and winding ascent later on in this route was quite difficult and strenuous. It was definitely worth it, though, and we would recommend a visit to the Edelhutte. The smell of cooking bratwurst outside helps you up the last few metres, and we had tried the home-made cake, which was excellent. It was very busy when we got there, even at an early hour and with cloudy, drizzly weather! The descent was much easier, and fuelled by cake and hot chocolate, quite enjoyable!

Took a longer than planned walk up the ahorn and came upon the Karl von Edel Hutte. Its actually the only place to eat up there and it was heaving. Had the Austrian pancakes and large beers to enable our recovery and celebrate our hike amongst all the professional walkers. Great views and healthy air. The waiter was good fun who came out amongst the hundred or so people and just shouted "Pancakes for the English". That is thinking on your feet.Would recommend the Austrian pancakes to anyone visiting there.

The Edelhutte lies about 90 minutes walking distance from the top of Mayrhofen's Ahorn lift. It can only be reached by walking there, however it is well worth the effort. The views across the Ziller valley are excellent. In summer the place is lively with numbers of walkers recovering from their exertions. The service is self service and the food is good Austrian mountain food.
