While I was visiting Texas, I decided to visit Killen 's Barbecue in Pearland. I asked for the Lean Brisket, with sides of Creamed Corn and Mac 'N ' Cheese. The brisket was outstanding! It was well cooked, soft, and it was nice how it just broke in my mouth. It was very lean overall, and the edges had a very small amount of fat to it. The edges were also nicely seasoned and had just the right amount of salt. I really enjoyed the brisket a lot. The Creamed Corn was nice, fresh, juicy, sufficiently creamy, and outstanding. Whenever in the Houston area, Killen’s is definitely on the list. As stated elsewhere, I’m an admitted BBQ connoisseur and the brisket and beef ribs here are among the best I’ve ever had. Both carefully cooked, you can feel the love with every bite. I’ve had the pork ribs, pork belly burnt ends and chicken on other visits, and every single one is exquisite. One important note. At most BBQ establishments the sides are largely an afterthought. The meat takes center stage and the rest is supporting cast. Not at Killen’s. The cream corn is off the chain, the baked beans are sweet and complementary to the main course, in fact, every one I’ve tried (green beans, collards, etc) has been phenomenal....
I will put this place in my 4 star bbq bucket. With so much competition around Houston this place has a great brisket but the pulled pork and especially ribs just don’t reach the top quality. Sides are hit or miss as well. My baked beans were full of flavor but the coleslaw was super dry. My colleagues ordered Mac and cheese and brussel sprouts. they both enjoyed Mac and cheese but we’re not happy with well done brussel sprouts. I’ve been to Killen’s Barbecue plenty of times and am finally doing a review. Recently, my family and I had dinner here to celebrate my mom’s birthday. We had some burnt ends as our appetizer, which we love except they were a little bit off this last time. I ordered what I usually get which is the pork ribs with creamed corn and mashed potatoes. The pork ribs were delicious especially with the tangy sauce. The creamed corn is a MUST, it is so so so good. The mashed potatoes are okay, nothing mind blowing. The service was also great, the man serving us was very attentive and nice which I appreciated. Overall, I enjoyed my meal and this will continue to be my go to spot for BBQ here in Houston... We had to try BBQ in Texas and I am glad we did. We were recommended by friends who live there to check this place out. We went here the day we were heading back to NC. The brisket and Mac and cheese were good. My daughter liked the pull pork. My son enjoyed the bread pudding. I gave this place 3 stars because the cashier wasn’t smiling, looked like she was mad about something and she didn’t hear me when I asked a question about extra bbq sauce. I would like to try other bbq places the next time I visit Houston again.
Stopped by after golf to try out this venue upon a recommendation from a friend. Well the dining room was packed, instead of waiting for a table, I chose to buy a to go order and eat in their pavilion. The order was ready in about 20 mins. “They do a brisk-it” business here. I ordered the pulled pork and the pork ribs and I must say that they were to perfection. One of the best I have had. The portions were sizeable and I did not leave hungry. You won’t either. Great choice, hope to be back.
went on a Sunday afternoon around 3pm and there is a line up. for $48 we had 4 sides and 3 meats beef ribs, moist brisket and pork ribs Pork ribs 5/10 Beef ribs 7/10 Moist brisket 10/10 Creamed corn is 11/10 its so good! Its a must try! Mac and cheese 9/10 my second favourite Collard greens 8/10 Bbq sauce 8/10 However they are not very generous with breads. I requested extra piece. Overall it was great.
Went for dinner after a ballet recital. 430ish on a Saturday. Just beat the crowd! Sat at a table of 10 within about 5-10 minutes. The food was excellent. Love this place. Best BBQ around South Houston area in my opinion. Highly recommend the burnt ends appetizer, and if you've got a sweet tooth you can't go wrong with the bread pudding or peach cobbler! Visiting from out of town. Amazing BBQ. Tender and flavorful brisket, pulled pork and crazy good cheddar/jalapeño sausage and burnt ends. Brussels sprouts, coleslaw, deviled eggs, and creamed corn are made perfect. Got there at 11am and line went by quickly. Will recommend to anyone and everyone.
