Pleasant Surprise Great Food and Service. Was in Statesville Saturday night and decided to give King of The Sea a try. Will admit I had reservations since it had a low approval rating but at the same time, no reviews. Normally not a good sign but I would guess a competitor is behind this.<br/ <br/ I was very surprised and in a very pleasant way. The service from the time you walk in the door was outstanding. Very good, always hot and the service staff are very friendly and helpful. Do not confuse KotS with fast food, no you don’t wait a long time, but it’s DEFINITELY NOT FAST FOOD. Relax, enjoy some hush puppies, yes they are delicious, have a coffee, tea or your favorite soft drink, and soak up the ambiance. This is old school fish camp, like your grandfather took you to. Bring the family, friends, coworkers, church group or just come with your son or daughter. It’s a great place to make a memory. Your child will ask you to bring them back again and again. We have been here several times and had a nice time. Unfortunately this visit wasn’t so good. We called ahead to make reservations for our 10 person group to celebrate a birthday and we were welcomed (on the phone). We arrived the time in which we made the reservations and had to wait an hour to be seated. They did not take any regard to our reservations. After finally getting seated we had a waitress that was unfriendly. We were then over-charged at check-out! Our service and food were mediocre. We will be choosing another place from now on because it is no longer worth the drive to be treated this way.

The service was quick and courteous. The restaurant was clean. The food was basic. I felt like my fish was cooked in the microwave and some old bay seasoning thrown on top. The hush puppies were delicious. This is a great, inexpensive, close to home seafood choice for dinner but if you are a seafood lover/foodie, this is not the place for you.

Visiting from out of town, reviews and pictures suggested an experience like our favorite seafood restaurant back home. Did not disappoint. Hush puppies were perfection, all the seafood cooked and seasoned just right, even the baked potato was perfect. Definitely worth the visit.
