Kitaro Surf Turf Sushi

I read some mixed reviews on this place, but usually don’t take them seriously. I’m glad I didn’t listen to the haters on this one. This spot is clean, open, and airy. Great little patio section that’s mostly shaded, so there isn’t too much sun. Located in a shopping center next to the SpringHill Suites where I was staying, it was just a couple hundred feet away! They have a large selection of sushi and seafood of course, as well as a few high end steaks. I got the 16 ounce New York strip, which was prepared perfectly. Our food was overpriced and not very good. I ordered the Japanese seared steak, medium. It came nearly raw, the outside had just barely been cooked. I normally just accept whatever I’ve ordered and don’t complain, but it literally was cold and inedible, so I sent it back to be re-fired. I’m pretty sure that they just microwaved it- it had the look and texture of boiled chicken (although obviously brown). My husband got the sea bass, it was ok, but had very little seasoning- definitely nothing to warrant the high price. I will say, our server was great. Will i return? Nope.

Food was delicious, as it always is. Service flopped. Waiter was very attentive at the outset, and then we went ~15mins without seeing him between bringing appetizers to table bringing main dishes. Even then, it took another 15mins on top of that before main dishes arrived. Restaurant was NOT crowded, and given that sushi doesn't need to be cooked, seemed odd that there was such a lag. Only guess was that it seemed like they had lots of takeout orders. Regardless, waiter should have mentioned the delay, checked in with us every 5-10mins /or prioritize our food.

I loved the decor, food and service! The variety of options were amazing, and the soft shell crab spring rolls were my favorite. I didn’t try the sushi, so I definitely will when we go there again.

Food was great. The sushi rolls were priced reasonably and large enough to be worth the price.
