Stopped here for dinner whilst in town. We were served fairly swiftly and all seemed fine. of the four mains, two were burgers which were barely passable, but we would have coped. The other two mains were a feta salad and some ribs. The salad was shocking. We all tried it because the person who ordered it couldn't believe how off it tasted. All agreed.. The ribs were so overcooked that the meat was completely inedible. Drier than sand. We very politely gave this feedback and requested that they remove these two dishes from the bill. This is where is got particularly bad.. (presumably) the manager came out and aggressively argued with us, telling us the food was excellent and there must be something wrong with us. We stood our ground and again politely disagreed and offered to pay for the rest of the stuff on the bill. The owner went away and returned with rack of bones on a plate, aggressively telling us that everyone loves the ribs, using this eaten plate as evidence. Getting very Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares at this point... Still staying calm, we said we would still happily pay for the rest, but if he wouldn't let us do that, we'd have to leave. He took it up a gear and was now threatening to call the police, which we welcomed because at this point what had we done wrong? Seething with anger and with clearly no reason to call the police, he removed the two items. However, not without telling me to look into the camera and that, not only was I never welcome to return, that I would be refused entry to every other establishment in the town that week. Nice touch, right? Frankly, I wish we had just walked out all together, because I took all of that abuse and yet still paid 90 Euros for four drinks and two well below par burgers. I probably don'y need to summarise that for you, but whatever you do, do not even think about going here. I'll express again that we were 100% polite and calm at all times, we just stood our ground. At no point did we do or say anything to elicit that kind of treatment.
Whilst it is certainly not fine dining, don't be put off by the slightly shabby feeling to the bar. A group of 8 of us had an excellent fondue dinner here, far better than more expensive restaurants. Staff were friendly and very willing to please. For a dinner out in Val D which doesn't break the bank I would recommend giving it a try.
