Thought would give this place another chance after disastrous service last year. Been here four times now, food is excellent BUT service definitely leans preferably towards the locals. We watched four tables of local French people arrive anything up to over an hour after us get their food 1/2hr before us?! I wouldn't mind so much but my French is not that bad so resent having to ask the waiters/waitresses numerous times where is our food only to eventually be told 'désole' another 5 minutes after literally a 2 hour wait whilst watching other tables of French order, eat and leave before we've had anything. We happened upon here while walking around the town and before we new it it was lunchtime, there is an infinite choice of bistros and restaurants and we picked this by chance we at outside with only a few tables we where lucky as 6 of us.Lunch menu was varied and not a bad price, I was not particularly Hungry and had a strange mix of melon and ham as my main course while everyone else had an omelette with varied additions we also ordered a couple of portions of chips which I strangely enjoyed with the melon,staff where excellent food was great and to a high standard was not expensive,many locals also enjoyed meals while we ate which is a good sign clean good food good service good value exce...
Rather too big a portion for me I'm afraid; I really do hate paying for a meal and then having to leave half of it as the portion was just too big. My husband had the same problem with the meal being way too large. The quality of the meat was average, so perhaps they should reduce the portion size and concentrate on the quality. We only had the main course, my husband had a small beer and I stuck to the water.
We picked this place by chance and tried the plat du jour which were brochettes / skewers freshly cooked and came with a generous serving of salad and frites. The service was pleasant and the food correct. I probably wouldn't come here for lunch but certainly a good establishment for lunch for a reasonable price. Give it a go.

Quiet street, coal restaurant, great friendly service, good choices on the menu, smashing burger and frites, lovely piece of grilled gammon and salad and a substantial clearly home made steak hate for my son. Excellent glass of red wine. What more do you want on a sunny Saturday lunch time shopping in Angouleme?
THe food was a total disappointment. Lovely, very hard working staff but the food was pretty dire. I had a fish dish which I could not eat. My husband's Confit de Canard was Fine. 1st courses edible, just. We will never go back. Come on France. Get your standards up. Yuk.
Had a dinner there with friends, the food was good and the portions were huge. Atmosphere was fine but the service was very slow and although we were not in any real hurry, it become quite a pain having to chase up the staff.
Ordered skewered beef med and it camechared outside and absolutely raw on the inside. Service was inattentive. No one ever checked back to see how everything was. Had to track down the server for the check.
