The previous review here by Paulwoods1 is very critical of this restaurant. All I can say is that were experienced the total opposite. We arrived unannounced and unbooked seeking somewhere to eat on our last night. They had a table for us and we were treated with respect and charm and graciousness, something to which I will return. The a la carte menu is not cheap nor for the faint-hearted but the fixed price menus, staring at 49 Euros, represent good value for money, considering what you get. (My spider-crab starter was priced at 26 Euros on the a la carte but was included as part of the 49 Euro option). But be warned, this is not a place go do if your idea of fine dining is McDonalds or your local Indian: this is dining in the very best French tradition. The food was exquisite and, in places, sublime. The pork, to be trite and cliched, really did melt in the mouth. Tastes and flavours were superb and the combination of ingredients first class. But although the food was universally excellent it was the service and the ambience was contributed much to our enjoyment. The restaurant is about a mile form the sea and sits on a hill, thus affording wonderful, if slightly distant, views of the bay. The staff were excellent. My wife, being picky, opted for a main and a dessert whereas I, glutton that I am, went for the three course 49 Euro menu. Drinks came with little nibbles (a variation of the cheese straw). Then came not one but two amuse bouches. These were cleared away and cutlery laid for my starter. They also gave my wife some. When she remonstrated saying that she wasn't having a starter they said that they couldn't let her simply watch me so would give her a small (complementary) starter (not on the menu). This was excellent - had it been on the menu she'd have had it. It was this level of service - professional, gracious, warm and stylish - and the food that makes this place as good as it gets. I doubt that there's a better restaurant within 50 miles on this stretch of the coast.
