La Cantine Restaurant

We decided to visit this restaurant when other restaurants that we intended to try were full or closed. So glad we did. A nice warm evening ,we were shown to a table outside. Really good extensive menu with plenty of choice for everyone. I had...a fantastic salad with smoked salmon prawns and chicken, which was yummy and my husband and son in law had the moules and frites, whilst my daughter had fish and chips. It became really busy as you would expect for a Saturday evening but despite this the 2 waiters were attentive and quick.

Pamper small things, which could be an excellent eating experience. For example, my Fambéd Crepe was served with alcohol, only no Fambé! We were told that it was flambit before reaching the table, but as it was very lukewarm, that sounded... very unlikely. Also my main meal consisted only of 2 gambs, served warm and the risotto again only lukewarm. Restaurant was busy so maybe other people eating experience was better than our own!

Still a good place for food, La Cantine has responded to their noise problem and the ambience is now so much better. The menu hasn't altered much, but the salmon steak is pretty good. We prefer La Casa, a sister restaurant, but still visit from...time to time with friends who love the steak here.

We didn't want huge meals, so we only had a salad, but the portions were so huge that we weren't finished. Too much chicken, sauce, parmesan etc., so we were overloaded. If it were easier or cheaper, we would have had a pudding. But... it was friendly and it was clean and well run.

Poor food only bettered by dreadful service. Main courses before starters etc. Don't go! Ever. Go across the road to Le 2M instead.
