We were very fortunate to stumble across this restaurant while over-nighting in Saintes. The staff were welcoming friendly and gave great service. The menu has a choice for each course as well as a chef's suggested menu of the day, which is waht we...chose and we were very impressed. The dishes were simple but delicious and made from freshly sourced ingredients. We were the first to arrive but by the time we began our meal, the place was filling up with locals and French families, always a good sign. What a great find in a pretty city. Five of us for lunch along with two dogs and we couldn’t have been more warmly welcomed. The two friendly guys that served us were so passionate about the food it was heartwarming, even down to the...finer points where one of our table didn’t want cheese in their starter, just before the main course was served the chef came out to ask if she was intolerant to lactose and they could change the cream sauce if needed that came with the tasty chicken dish. 4 chicken dishes served with mash potatoes a beautiful mustard sauce and vegetables and one duck dish for main course were all devoured as were the very sublime deserts. This establishment is a restaurant cum wine bar located somewhere in the back cobbled streets of Saintes. Limited lunch time menu consisting of a 3 course meal. The meal is very tasty and filling. Although the menu is set there is some room for manoeuvre,...we didn’t fancy the gizzards as a starter and the chef was happy to Russell up something different. Staff are very friendly and polite, they obviously have a good knowledge of wines and are happy to recommend a good accompaniment to your meal. All in all a pleasant experience in French dining and we will return here again.
what a jewel of a restaurant. my wife and I are real food and we stumbled over this restaurant while we explore saintes old town and look for lunch. eating is amazing and the front of the housewife was charming. the cook knows clearly what he does and you can watch him while waiting for the cheerful tasty bites! I had seabreams with risotto (see photo,) that was excellent with a taste that was exceptional. my wife had a little bite of chicken filled with crispy pancakes with paella. they enjoyed their meal too much. sure, that must be one of the best restaurants in saintes! We visited for lunch today and had the Menu du Jour which was stunning! I’m not a fan of cheese so asked for the Italian salad without cheese. Before serving the main course the chef came specifically to ask whether my request for no cheese...was due to a lactose intolerance as the main course sauce was made with cream. Individual friendly service that cannot be faulted. We also got to try the wines before committing to a glass/bottle. Thank you guys for a memorable lunch! If we are ever back in Saintes we will be sure to visit
we enjoyed a fabulous lunch here during our stay and were very impressed around the restaurant. the service was very friendly and welcoming and they had excellent wines/champagns through the glass menu and of course fantastic food. the highlight had to be...the bark smoked with the flaming thymian. the bark was exceptional and some of the best we ever had. the soße that she accompanied was also richly structured. we'll be back in any case!
