If you are staying in Exideuil - either at the camp site or otherwise - and wish to find a non-assuming place to eat, with reasonable friendly service and good prices, La Guinguette is a great option. It seems to be a bit of an expat haunt, with many cars in the car park being British, and there's a nice atmosphere as everyone enjoys a drink or meal in the terrace. The surroundings are not fantastic: it's definitely not the place for a romantic meal, but if it's not overly expensive food you're after that's fine. On weekends there are special offers to the menu. Fridays is steak and chips for 12 euro night, Saturdays moules frites. Fridays they have live music which provide a good backdrop to the meal and give the place a good atmosphere. Our experience of dining in this region of France is set menus which can be pricey, so this provides a welcome relief, especially if you're a large family dining out every night. Give it a try.
Saturday night at Camping de la Riviere is when you can enjoy Moules et Frites for just 12 euros. You are offered a choice of sauces and are then served up with a generous portion. If you still have room you can then have even more at no extra cost. This is the special on a Saturday but there are many other things on the menu if you'd prefer.
We enjoyed a great evening at the restaurant. Arriving for an evening meal we discovered Friday nights also include live music. Steak and chips great value at €12 a head and plenty other choices including large salads, fish and chicken. Great, relaxed ambience sitting under the stars.
