We went here for dinner with high expectations for a great dinner. What we got was very disappointing, with mediocre food and poor service. We arrived at 7pm for a reservation, and there were no other customers yet. They told us to sit at any table we preferred. We started off ordering two cocktails, and two appetizers. The appetizers were ok, but my drink (gin tonic) was very watery, and basically did not taste like gin or tonic, just water. For mains, my partner ordered duck a'la'orange, and I ordered boeuf bourguignon. The duck was ok, but my food was easily the worst version of boeuf bourguignon that I've ever had. The beef was tough and rubbery, to the point of being difficult to chew....
It is by chance that I discovered this very good restaurant, located in a quiet street in the district of mazarin. Had a fantastic meal here on a cold winter night. Four persons with various dietary requirements and allergies. Staff very supportive in finding solutions and information. Well-cooked traditional french food with an innovative twist. It simply tastes great and gives you a bit of a surprise! After discussions with La Cheffe we realized how much effort they dedicate creating the dishes and delivering them with consistent high quality. The chesnut gnocchis are an excellent example. The decor was quite chic and the food wasn't bad, but definitely overpriced for the quality. One can get a much better meal in AIx for much less money. It was our most expensive meal over our 10-day journey through Provence, including a Michelin-starred restaurant. I feel it wasn't worth the money. The best part of the dinner was dessert, which is not even made in-house. Also, no one cleaned our table from the crumbs before meals, so I had to push them away to the center of the table. I went to this restaurant yesterday for the first time, even though I live close to Aix-en-Provence. I had been looking for exclusivity, peace, elegance and excellent food for a long time and I was delighted to have found it at La Maison Française. The food is delicious, the portions generous and the service is perfect. I very highly recommend it to local people looking for the same priorities and to visitors looking for the very best of French food away from the tourists' paths.
Delicious meal. The cocktails were divine. There is lots of great wine in Aix and Provence, but it is virtually impossible to find good cocktails. The food was delish, and the waiters were all very attentive. The vibe is chill and quiet, and the location in the Mazarin is convenient.
