"Far from 1st class. Food arrived just 2 minutes after ordering and was clearly heated up again or microwaved. Fries were not fully cooked and salmon og poor quality. Duck was dry. On the positive side, service was good"

After driving quite a way found it closed for lunch it only opens from 5pm for food (at this time of year! Did the sensible thing called ahead booked a table for next day. We wanted to visit after seeing Dick Angela’s visit on the “Escape to the Chateau” where they bought a pink marble rolling pin! The restaurant shop are all in one big room. There are several pink marble items to choose from all at reasonable prices. We stayed for dinner which was tasty. Staff were friendly but didn’t speak English but got by on usual school girl French! The museum is in a separate room attached to the restaurant, certainly worth a look round. Glad we made the trip rolling pins are really beautiful
I ordered the daily special which said ‘fillet mignon’, which I assumed was beef, but apparently in France it’s pork. This would’ve been ok except the pork was hard, dry and tough, difficult to eat and tasted terrible. The carrot mash with it was nice though. My husband ordered the cassoulet for the experience. He said it was good, but wouldn’t order that particular dish again anywhere. Our waitress was nice and the garden setting was lovely. Also it’s hard to know the opening days/hours, because they don’t match what’s on their website, as we visited a couple of times and they were closed. It also advertises itself as a ‘Salon de te’, but is never open during the day for tea!
Of the four places we ate in Caunes Minervois somewhere had to be number four and unfortunately it was here. Food was ok but very unimaginative and bread was like rock! Service was good, house wine was reasonable but wouldn't rush back as you would quickly complete the menu!
