La Pergola is one of our most frequented Italian restaurants in the area. We like coming here for special occasions. Last night, we came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The outdoor area was quiet for a Thursday night (perhaps because of the televised presidential debate? , and we were promptly seated. I ordered one of the specials (linguine with soft shell crab in an aioli lemon sauce , while my husband had his favorite dish short ribs gnocchi. To say were were disappointed in the meal is an understatement. Not sure what happened, but the meal was not satisfactory. We knew Father's Day was going to be busy, so we decided to get take-out from La Pergola for the first time. After reading online reviews, my husband and I chose the ribeye steak and chicken parmigiana based on the great feedback. When we got home and opened the meal, we were disappointed to find that the steak was not cooked to our liking. I called the restaurant to complain and the chef offered to come to our house to cook the steak to perfection. While he cooked, Chef Al shared stories about his family and career in the restaurant industry. In the end, the steak was delicious and the service was outstanding. Was at this restaurant 8/2 for my birthday celebration dinner. It was absolutely awful. They were unprepared for after rain storm. They ran out of specials at 7pm. 3 waiters came to take our order, 3 waiters came to read us the specials, they were out of the specials at 7pm. When I said I was going to leave when they told me they were out of the specials, the waiter was more than happy to give me a check for the appetizers. They were rude, under staffed, lacked supervision. I would never go back to this poor example if a restaurant. It totally sucked. Food as well. Think twice about coming to this restaurant.
I have had many great meals at La Pergola and their food and service are wonderful. Their outside seating is such a lovely treat. Last night we had another delicious meal only to be truly shocked when the bill arrived. My husband ordered the ribeye special and was told it was a large cut of meat, but not told the price. It was $115. I realize we did not ask but with that high an upcharge I think that the waiter should have said something it is more that twice the price of anything on their menu), and I will not ever order a special there without asking the price. Just a warning......

We were shocked when the bill came and learned the steak special was $125 when all other entrees were under $55. Stunned that the waiter did not offer the prices of the specials. The waiter tried to take our order three times in 10 minutes claiming the kitchen would get backed up. The restaurant had not filled as it was early. The table did not have napkins. After asking several times, we took them off the next table. Overall, a disappointment, especially when there are so many other restaurants in MIllburn.
This restaurant offers lovely outdoor dining in an area that doesn't typically have nice outdoor options. They serve classic upscale Italian dishes with classy yet unpretentious service. It's perfect for special occasions or a laid-back evening. The atmosphere inside and outside offer completely different experiences. Bringing your own wine is always an option, which is great. Parking is available on the street or in paid lots. Kids are welcome but the vibe is more suited for adults.
Celebrated my sister and BIL's 60th anniversary and had a wonderful time. Everything was delicious and served hot. Three chic parms were a giant hit and plenty remaining for leftovers. The fish was fresh and really very delicious. The eggplant lasagna was also awesome. The desserts were excellent. The service was fantastic as well. Definitely one of the best Italian dinners outside of Italy. Thanks for making the celebration memorable..Grazie tante!
Tonight, we were celebrating a friend's birthday dinner. We almost went to another restaurant, but I'm soooo glad we decided on La Pergola! We shared the stuffed Artichoke, which was the best I've ever had, in a addition to the stuffed mushrooms...also delicious. My entrée was the Sole Francese...also delicious. My compliments to the Chef and entire staff for making this an all around lovely evening!

The food was excellent and the staff were all very friendly and attentive. Our table tried several seafood dishes, a chicken dish, duck, pasta dishes, and the sardine appetizer special, and we couldn't stop praising everything. The service was a bit slow, but it seems to be common in restaurants nowadays. This wouldn't stop me from returning multiple times.
The outdoor patio provided a lovely setting on a summer evening. Service was excellent. I find that the food (I've eaten here several times) is not consistent. Recipes seem to change. But I still have my favorites!
