La Tarberna del Puerto is right on the beach front at Playa San Juan, but on a terrace so that there is no need to walk on the black, volcanic sand if you do not want to. We sat under the canopy in front of...the restaurant, so that we could watch the world go by. Service was a little slow but, in fairness, it was busy. We ordered a paella de mariscos (seafood) to share. We were told it would take circa 20-25 minutes to arrive, which was an accurate assessment, so we ordered a large mixed salad to share in the meantime. When the paella arrived it was served sizzling from the pan onto our plates by a waitress in front of us. The aroma made us salivate and the taste was heavenly. It was worth every minute of the wait while the food was cooked freshly for us. The time had passed quickly anyway, as the location provided an excellent vantage point from which to people watch. This was a good find. I normally avoid restaurants filled with tourists on beach fronts with menus in multiple languages, but on this occasion we took a chance and it paid off with delicious food.
After taking a 5 miles long fleeting coastal road from playa de la arena to san juan, we thought of a refreshing beer. the hotel is located on the harbour and beach with a pleasant environment. friendly staff and reasonable prices. even though we weren't eaten. of good quality plundered
