La Table de la Fontaine

We made the mistake of going here on a Friday night in December (party of 4) because other restaurants in Rians didn't have any more tables available. We were greeted politely but as soon as we sat down at a table the owner of the restaurant told us that the restaurant was hosting a musical evening and that the menu had been slightly changed as a consequence. A slight change meant that we could choose between five dishes, i.e. a dish of 6 oysters, 12 oysters, 18 oysters, a cold soup or a grilled camembert (not ideal when you don't like oysters). We are fans! Third time in a row, Silvie and Marc surprised us with their exquisite choice of local bio-products and wonderful selection of local wines. The chill nononsense friendly ambiance, you get extra, for free, as well as the beautiful setting on Place Saint Laurent. Do not expect "la grande chic", but fair and friendly kitchen full of surprises. Perhaps it may happen some dishes are not available for everyone at the table, but do not worry, every alternative suggested is worthwhile. If you are near Rians, do not doubt, and pay them a visit. We will keep doing it, for sure!

We had seen the signs pointing the way to La Table de la Fontaine, but only reached it a couple of days into our weeks holiday. The location is a small square with a fountain, away from the mainstream. Most tables are outside, as the restaurant is tiny (the cook cooks on the first floor!!). Each week there is a small but unforgettably good menu, everything is good and fresh, including the local wine! Our host was most charming and gave everybody individual attention. Do check beforehand if the restaurant is open, as they are busy running a guesthouse as well.

5 of us went during the Fete de La Courge so the one menu was centred around the 'courge' (pumpkin). The dishes were all freshly prepared with very good ingredients, the bourride was particularly excellent, the staff was very welcoming and charming, they had run out of the deserts at the end, so they made on the spot a chocolate fondant which was absolutely delicious. The owner was very keen on spreading his knowledge about the village which was quite fascinating. All in all a thoroughly nice lunch, we want to go back and taste their everyday cuisine. On a wonderful small, hidden and quiet square this restaurant has tables dotted around the village fountain in idyllic evening surroundings. The owner takes so much care of you and explains much about the good, wine and village. A set menu of 35 euro is excellent value and has fresh regional cuisine. Do try the chateau Vignelaure red wine. Very famous and it is excellent for good wine lovers. Off the beaten track but they also have chambres d'hotes so you can stay.

If you find yourself near the village of Rians in Provence, search out the Auberge de la Fontaine which can be found in a small square with tables set under trees. A very warm welcome awaits and the menu compris offers mouth watering choices of entree, plat du jour and dessert and was stunning value at 26 euros per head. Accompanied by a demi carafe of the delicious local vin rose, a delicious and relaxed lunch was an absolute joy.

A night to remember for the whole family. The welcome, the food, the ambiance and the setting on a quiet square in Rians were perfect. Chapeau too as we had four vegetarians in our group of 7 and they were catered for perfectly. The owner is so passionate about his work and was a fount of knowledge and anecdotes about the local area and its history. Tremendous!

We had a lovely family, evening meal at La Table de La Fontaine, eating al fresco in the quite secluded square. Very well prepared, local dishes,with fresh local ingredients. Friendly and attentive host and very reasonable price for family of four Reserva una mesa ahora

Excellent! Simply excellent. In all regards. Great food, lovely place, pleasant host. It has been like jumping in the past with all the charm of autentic local food in a medieval square.

Two out of the 3 of us got a light food poissoning. This is not a restaurant its a guy trying to make some money somehow.
