La Taverne D Alsace

We were staying at the Kyriad Direct hotel which is almost next door. This was a stop over ~2.5 hrs from the ferry at Caen. Restaurant was recommended by the receptionist. We were doubtful as it was too convenient! It doesn’t look promising but is huge and popular. Lots of families and groups. Had a shared Foie Gras starter very enjoyable). I had steak with pepper sauce and wife had a salmon pasta dish. Mine was v good. Well cooked steak, excellent dauphinois potatoes and a decent pepper sauce. Wife’s pasta was,’OK’. Decent bottle of Pinot Noir €25). Serving lady very pleasant no English but basic French got us by menu has English translations). If you don’t go off piste you’ll have a good meal.

Our itinerary said we were to expect a traditional French meal in an old world setting. It was neither. The only traditional thing we're the escargots. The waiters were confused as to who had ordered what. Fortunately they provided a musician who was charismatic enough to get the group singing.

It was a little late at night on a day that most restaurants were closed. We found Les Relais and went inside after the cold weather outside it was like paradise! A nice place, with joyful atmosphere. Great choise of french kitchen dishes. Everything was delicious and the prices reasonable.

Had a great dinner with friends. We were a bit late/early; but restaurant was able to serve us. The pork knuckle was good; other dishes were OK too.

Food was Ok, but the waiter was not nice. Too expensive for what you get. I don’t recommend go there with small children.
