Searching for Authentic Mexican Cuisine. Look no further as La Tonalteca as busted through competing with some of Dovers best like La Delicias. A true gem locally and set in the heart of Dover. Still thriving next to a Taco Bell ! The beef on the nachos was not the the tastiest. Beef tasted like over seasoned sausages. The t bone was perfect though shrimp cooked perfect afloat my steak. Didn’t even touch the salad. They applied peppers. Not a fan. I was wishing for a better portion of rice and beans. My Pork Carnitas was too seasoned to enjoy. A little too tough to thoroughly chew through. My avocado sliced salad was good enough. Buti asked for no avocados. My kids preferred Taco Bell sadly....
Simply delicious food. I had a burrito there that I devoured. Salsa is good though I wish it had more heat. The service is very nice. Definitely worth a stop, and my wife and I have been plenty of times and will plenty more. Newer review: still tasty, though churros were a little sad. My newest review: service has taken a giant leap downhill. I tried calling the place an order and after 8 attempts with either no answer or picking up and hanging up I gave up. I went to the place to order in person and it took 5 minutes before anyone even approached me. I haven't tried the food yet as it still hasn't been made, but I'm not sure I want to come back based on the service. And I shouldn't take it...
We walked into an argument and they continued arguing then finally decided to seat us. The service was terrible the guy that seemed to be in charge was continuously arguing with staff while we were waiting for food. When we requested special items he made it seem as if it was an issue because we wanted to make the order special by just adding a few things. The bar tenders were excellent, Drinks were nice and strong. next visit hopefully things will be better.
My wife and I enjoy eating here food is very good and service is very friendly. But order pick up not so good food is a mess to eat . We ordered chalupas but both of the chalupas are on top of each other which is a mess but very good . And another Santa Fe was very good except for the cheese wasn't melted on it. But other than that this restaurant is very good place to go eat.

The restaurant was packed as of Cinco De Mayo, which we already knew. The service was good as per Zuleka who was our waitress. The food was very good as for it being crowded and short staff. The restaurant has alot of historic features of Mexico. It was nice to see that. I probably come back when it's not busy just to get a better experience.
Wow! Eye-catching decor invites you to authentic Mexican cuisine. Carnitas tacos were juicy from this world, even the starter chips and salsa were hot crispy and a good building spice. Treat yourself to a house of margaritas, especially during the week. The elephant could take the cake as the product whose taste exceeds its appearance.
Our community is looking for dinner every few months and LA Tonalteca is usually the place everyone wants to go. The food is great, the waiters entertaining, and the atmosphere is beautiful! Love the decor too! You always have good food and fun there!
Dinner out with friends. Hubby was pleased with his shrimp tacos, while I enjoyed the classic tacos. Both were generous servings. Friends both had fajitas. Plates were overflowing and were declared delicious.

The ambiance is really charming, and the staff is friendly; however, it would be great if they could improve their understanding of my requests.
This restaurant can be hit or miss. The first time I visited, I was quite disappointed with the food.
