Champignolles is a small village with shop and boulangerie off the beaten track not far from Gemouzac, so is an unlikely location for this superb restaurant. The atmosphere is unique: full of original art, painted glassware and pottery and there's a lovely garden patio if it's warm enough. However, the greatest artistry lies in the food. My husband declared it "impeccable" which I thought an understatement. There are unusual combinations of flavours and everything is beautifully presented. This is a very special meal at incredibly low prices (17.50 euros for 3 courses). If you were in La Rochelle, you'd pay 50 for the same food.
