L'Abbaye le Delice

We didn’t have any reservation on our first night for a restaurant. We were sent away at the hotel at the village square, claiming that they were full (which was not the case as we walked by later on). With not many options left we...walked to this restaurant and were happy that they had room for and were happy to welcome us. We ordered the fish of the day and the lam with haricots verts. It was nothing special and an ok meal. The biggest joy came from the fact that we actually had some warm food that night.

It's Oct and three weeks touring this beautiful country has left us exhausted. Why is everywhere closed, why does no one want to offer us a service (food, drink a bed) not just at a time we want it but on a day we want...it? Do the French only eat out when on holiday (ex Sun or Mon of course) but I digress. These guys are polite, they care about you they want you to enjoy your food and wine. And we did. With young people like this in the trade the world is a better place. Vive la France.

We booked here for Christmas Dinner due partly to its location, an easy minute walk from our rental cottage and because it was open! We were so glad we did, the restaurant was very busy, mainly French families, and the service was both friendly...and attentive. The food was superb and we all needed the walk back after happily over indulging!

We recently enjoyed Sunday lunch with friends how live in Fontevraud. The set menu was really good value and delicious as was the wine. The owners couldn't have been nicer or more friendly which is why is so popular with the locals.

It was difficult to find anywhere open in Fontevraud after pm, to our surprise. So we felt lucky to find this little place. Full of local people, always a good sign. We had good food, freshly cooked and at the right price.
