We were shocked today when we arrived with friends after a day of skiing. We are all from different countries and ordered a few drinks and cakes in a mixture of Italian, English and German. It was such a wonderful sunny day and the terrace was beautiful. We ordered one of the cakes with two spoons and when the waitress came back with two applestrudels we explained we had only ordered 1. She told us we were wrong and she couldn’t do anything about the situation. We continued to eat one and she came back to take the 2nd strudel away. This was a sign to us that she had accepted the misunderstanding in the order. It happens and it could have been turned around professionally. The response usually is: oh sorry I had misunderstood and don’t worry about it. However, this was not the case and she made sure she charged us for two cakes anyway. We had skied on and were contemplating why the bill was nearly 60 Swiss francs for a few non alcoholic drinks and three cakes. The way we were treated was unacceptable and we will make sure never to return even though one of our friends is a local.
After having eaten there today, we walked towards Sils Maria and found an old man lying on the ice on the lake. He had been lying there helpless, and was in shock. We helped him to walk and reach the Lagrev restaurant to get help to go back home. The managerin ?...a young postuguese wamn) was awful. She hardly bothered to get off her cell phone, refused to provide any help, and showed just no interest for the situation. The restaurant's cook, and the young man working the restaurant were helpful and compassionate, but this young woman showed no human feeling. Nothing, Although the place is great, the food is good, and the other people really friendly, I suggest to the owner/managers to have a talk with this heartless, awful woman.She was a shame of a human being. The old man we helped made it back home, but only thanks to other people who were kind enough to help.
An ideal stop after hiking one of the many path around the lake. Isola is a charming hamlet and the restaurant offers outdoor sitting with lovely views. But the cake selection is absolutely the best part of it. Either you like red berries, or chestnut, or you are a fan of chocolate or you stick to a very traditional strudel you will not be disappointed. An advice: walk in and have a look at the cakes before choosing.
This place is very authentic with many winter guests on a sunny day. We had several dishes, but mine Gerstensuppe mit Würstel and the special Bier was very good. Service was fast, friendly and helpfull. Donn 't forget the dessert table with the fine cakes! Many people were sitting outside and enjoying the sunny place.
