L'archipel - Reservar una mesa

We ate here after making a reservation through TripAdvisor, and were sat outside. We were a party of four including two children. Once seated, we were offered a booster seat for the youngest which was very helpful. The menu was in French but we were able to decipher most of it, and the waitress was happy to answer any of our questions. The children ate the fish and fries off the children's menu, which was delicious, and then had an ice cream sundae for dessert. Happy faces all round! My partner and I chose two different options off the set menu for all three courses, and were happy with everything. We had the goats cheese and duck starters, followed by the cod curry and duck confit mains (my only criticisms here are that the salad alongside the duck was plain and would have benefitted from a dressing to make it less dry, and the cod curry sauce was rather salty so I only poured a little into my plate), and finally the chocolate fondant and panna cotta dessert. Both were delicious, as was the house dry white wine.

The evening started out nice enough, with a kind offer to change an inside table in the middle of a passageway for a nice round table for 5. After the appetizer, things got complicated: over a half hr wait between appetizers and the main course and our mains eventually showed up under cooked.. what could have been a lovely evening out with family to celebrate my mother in law’s birthday ended up being an evening in annoyance and frustration with an unresponsive uncaring staff. Our bad luck? Trouble in the kitchen? Very disappointed by what we were told was a top restaurant in Biscarrosse. The burger and pizza joints do a better job!

Having looked at the reviews maybe my expectation had been set slightly too high. The restaurant lay out and setting was nice relaxed etc and just enough away from the crowds. The service we had was good (and happy to tip) The food however was just a bit underwhelming we had the 54 euro beef to share it was not served how we had asked, I appreciate in France the take on medium rear might differ to the UK but it was rear blue. The beef itself was ok but not up to the price and the side salad was enough for one person. The house wine was very good, as were the cappucinos.

Really excellent meal here on our return to Biscarrosse this year, it having been our favourite spot on hols last year. Nautical/surfy shabby chic vibe, top end smiley service and excellent food. We ate with our 2, 4 and 6 year olds and despite kids in tow felt very welcome, glow in the dark bracelets for the kids etc. We adults both had the menu of the day for €28, great value- don't pass it; favourite place in Biscarrosse Plage. Ps try their mojitos!!

We ate a set lunch that surpassed expectations. The goats cheese starter was main course sized and delicious. We had excellent service and felt the food was excellent value for money.
