"We had driven down from Oxford and overnighted at the nearby Hotel La Croix De Vernuche. It was a balmy evening and we sat in the garden and enjoyed excellent food accompanied by a fine Sancerre. Strongly recommend."

Everything looked from the outside but the service was very poor, two hours later I gave up on the offer of dessert and coffee which they seemed quite pleased about as it was included in my order, and took my leave. The first glass of red wine of the house was nice which encouraged me to finish the glass and ask for another, oops the glass was full of sediment and the next glass was a completely different wine which was even chilled not like the first, room temperature. After forward all day to relaxing over a nice French meal to round off my holiday I got the opposite, the food I did have was ok. Shame!

We had a very good meal. The food was very well cooked and nicely served. The restaurant was very busy but all the courses arrived in a timely manner. The environs of the restaurant are slightly off putting because it is surrounded by industrial premises BUT do not be put off. Once inside it is well decorated and comfortable. Most of the customers seemed to be local which, in France, is always a good sign. Definitely worth making a reservation. If we had not we would not have got a table.e
Staying for our second visit at the nearby Hotel La Croix De Vernuche on our homeward journey, we booked for dinner at Le Bengy having had a good experience there a couple of years ago (and it is within walking distance of the hotel). We were not disappointed. The food offering was as good if not better than our previous visit and the recommended Sancerre, at 21Euros was fantastic. A restaurant well worth visiting. Suggested by our hotel we had a stroll from the La Croix.. to the restaurant. On advice I had pre booked a table, good advice as the restaurant is extremely popular. Very good varied menus at various pricing. Something there for everybody. Staff are professional yet at the same time friendly and not averse to un blague Anglaise Delicious food. Thanks Bengy.
We ate here twice in our stay in the area. This is a very good restaurant, serving excellent food, two of our number had gluten free requirements which were very adequately met. The restaurant has a great ambiance, although the garden not so much. We really enjoyed it which is why we went twice.
Set on the side of a fairly busy road in Varennes Vauzelles, this restaurant is a hidden gem. Very inventive, top notch food, at very reasonable prices. Sometimes hard to get a table, so worth reserving. They have a nice outdoor garden during the summer. Reserva una mesa ahora
