I have to say that France continues to be disappointing in its food, perhaps its because the uk food has changed for the better. I stuck my neck out and ate the signature sea anemone dish which, when you know how it is made i understand why it costs a lot. taste-wise..I tried, but i am not so sure it sang. However, we were really well looked after, and we spent a lot of money. After living in France every summer for 30years we have mostly stopped going out to eat because the food is either over budget or poor. We ate at the bistrot de Bene as the restaurant we wanted to eat was fully booked(note to self: book beforehand!)Our disappointment soon turned to delight. The food served was very flavorsome and we can recommend the tagine de poissons et langoustine (no s at langoustine as only one in the dish, that was a bit mean)! with preserved lemon. We found the service good enough if a little slow but it was a very beautiful late summer day and the restaurant was very busy.We would go again.

Wandered in Bistrot de Bene when cycling over Ile de re and having been turned away from a busier place a few steps away. One of those accidental gems - had the €36 set menu which was fabulous - dainty, subtle, beautifully presented, attentive and professional staff. Add a bottle of Cote de Provence rose, a couple of Kir's and coffee and we had a feast lasting over 2 hours for barely €50 each.Only problem was getting back on the bikes for 25km back to St Martin.
