First of all I'll get the positives out of the way, le Croc Magnon (the name is supposed to be a pun so funny I forgot to laugh) is situated in a lovely part of old Bergerac. That's it.Now for the bad. 20 minute wait for drinks. 1 hour 45 minutes wait to find out they had forgotten our order, despite being sat in front of the kitchen. One waiter took our young son's pushchair and put it to one side but another waiter was not happy with it's location and threw it down the street. I can't say much about the food as we never saw any but adjacent tables complained (And got little response from the gormless staff).The final insult was that we disputed paying the bill for no food (Not even bread)...
The place just can’t handle the volume of people that comes with such a lovely location. In the end we spent nearly two hours here for a main course each and a drink. The food was fine but no better that that. One large goat’s cheese decent lasagne, piping hot and made you think microwave and some mushroom pasta, which was ok but basic. Finally when we went to pay I was told no cards. Suggested this might be something to say before we sat down. No hint of an apology. Apparently hadn’t been working for 24 hours, like I was supposed to know this and was told which direction to walk in to get cash. It’s a lovely spot and we had a nice family lunch but I’d rather it hadn’t taken so long.
We waited 1 hour and 20 minutes to be served our meal only to be told that the kitchen had lost the order! We had 2 very young children with us who were hungry and crying. The waiter offered no explanation or apology or even offered to make amends instead insisting that we paid for our drinks or he would call the police. We were disgusted by the appalling attitude but having seen some of the other reviews, they obviously don't care as there are plenty more unsuspecting customers around. Don't recommend anybody to go there!
Location is just about all this place has going for it. The restaurant we intended to visit was closed on Monday evening, so we chose this as an alternative. Although the location is beautiful and the weather helped, the food was really poor. Pizzas had a distinctly frozen characteristic, being very wet on arrival at the table. The carbonara was simply awful. I guess the location means that this place continues to survive despite the evidently consistently poor reviews.

Service was quite good, slow evening, so few customers. Pizzas were a little bland. Issues with trying to pay, their credit card machine was down, but they weren’t really sorry, good thing we had just enough cash. Lots of order places to choose. Hope w3 have better luck tomorrow for dinner.
And a stunning location in Bergerac old town. Next to the old church with its ringing bells. Food was delicious and service friendly. Would recommend
Service is poor and the food not as described. We even had a waiter with an open cut serving food! Should have viewed this site first
We enjoyed a selection of amazing salads and a couple of pitchers of chilled white wine. Perfect position in the old town.
