"We picked this restaurant off the street because the restaurant we wanted was closed for August. We were really impressed by the quality of the food (and being from Melbourne we know good asian food). The service was very pleasant and we noticed that all the other customers were french, so the restaurant seemed to be a local favourite."

I was tempted by the variety of the food in the menu and tried out the Ma Po To Fu, not usually available in standard Chinese restaurants in central Paris. The waitress sort of pushed the first course on me I wanted the Siu Mai, but she said it 'wasn 't good ' and that I should have the soup dumplings instead (which were more expensive) and in fact not really worth their cost. I 've had far better, even outside China. My next course was Ma Po To Fu, which also didn 't compare very well with what I 've had even in Paris a bit oily, but not spicy or flavourful enough. And it 's a bit shabby, which attracts at times slightly strange clientele, as was the case when I went to dinner there. But re...

A remarkable achievement that this diamond has survived since its founding in 1971. The style, menu and décor bring back the memory of Asian restaurants in Europe in the 70’s and 80’s: Aged albeit charming setting; who nowadays would have “Chinese and Thai” as its cuisine (it’s like “French and Italian” ; too long a menu with nondescript dish names like “poulet spécial du chef”; etc. The food is flavourful, not memorable but not bad, and catering more to French tastes than trying to be authentic (the tom yum definitely is not; the shiu mai is not refined . Service is excellent friendly and helpful that’s the advantage of being a family business!

I always have at least one meal at Le Diamant Rose when I am in Paris. It is far the best real traditional Chinese restaurant in the capital. I have been going there for at least 25 years and the quality hasn’t changed. They offer a great selection of traditional dishes. I usually have soft shell crab with garlic and chilli. Absolutely delicious. Their sweet and sour prawns are also delicious. The service is great and you are treated like a special guest whatever you are a returning customer or a tourist walking through the door for the first time. The staff speak English, French and Chinese. You can pay with CC.

We had dinner here tonight. I had the 16 Euro menu: a small carafe of wine, chicken soup, sweet and sour pork, and rice. My husband for 15 Euro had black bean chicken, rice, and beer. It was up to standard for an American Chinese restaurant, although portions were smaller and vegetable heavy compared to in the US. The black bean chicken had a bit of spice, rare in Europe. The waitress spoke English and was very helpful. The service was very quick.
