"We have 3 children ages 4,6 and 8. We wanted to eat out in a French restaurant and find a child friendly place where we felt comfortable. The food was great, good value and the kids loved it. Lots of French people eating there so a good sign."

Came for evening meal after reading reviews here. Not at all disappointed, in fact my carnivore gourmand of a husband declared it to be the best meal he's had so far in France! I found the service rather too slow, but after several visits over many years we're coming to understand that this is just the French norm. 2adults had escargots / St Jacques terrine for starters, 2children (7&10) both had salami platters... All good. Mains= delicious steak, cote de veau, kids had 1 fish, 1 Turkey. All but steak had a complementing sauce. All had choice of chips, pasta, green beans, rice, potatoes, salad. Lots of choice at each step of meal, including great puds. V friendly host, who also led a lively...

The first thing that drew us to le Donjon was that it was absolutely rammed with local diners. The second thing was the extensive choice and value offered by the two set menus. I chose from the 17 Euro version and had a delicious prawn skewer starter followed by fresh grilled fish with green beans. My husband went for the slightly dearer regional menu (22 euros) starting with an enormous platter of local pates and sausages, followed by an entrecote steak with mushroom sauce. We both then enjoyed a cheese course (4 cheeses and crusty bread) and finally our choice of desserts (tart tatin for me, caramel macaroons and ice cream for him). Two pichets of very drinkable red wine at 5 euros for hal...

This was our second visit to Le Donjon and the service and quality of the food was great on both occasions. On this visit my husband had snails followed by kidneys which he thoroughly enjoyed. I had eggs mayonnaise followed by steak. We had a pitcher of the house rose and one of red. Both were enjoyable and incredibly cheap and surprisingly the rose was one of the nicest I tasted on this trip to France. For dessert I had cheese and my husband tarte tatin. This is an unpretentious restaurant popular with the locals which offers great meals at extremely reasonable prices. An absolute gem!
