While on a trip in Gruyere and staying at the Hotel Caillier, we wanted to eat fondue so we looked at cute town around where we were. Bulle came up as charming, so we decided to find a restaurant. Le fribourgeois was recommended by TripAdvisor so we booked (you should if you want to go there, it gets busy). The service was nice, the ambiance became much more fun when the small ensemble started to play music (typical Swiss music), the fondue (We tried Vacherin and moitié/moitié) and plate of viande sechée and white wine from the region. After that we walked through the charming little town and had a meringue and Gruyere cream (double cream) at a small restaurant in town.

Absolutely packed by locals and loved by tourists. Typical dishes for this area. NB! Swiss Germans please remember not to ask for Rösti as this is the French-speaking side of the Röstigraben. Röstigraben is a humorous term used to refer to the cultural boundary between German-speaking and French-speaking parts of Switzerland. The food was good but by no means exceptional. The service could be better but the ladies are under a lot of pressure and it appears there are not enough waiters. Yes, I would recommend Le Fribourgeois, simply for it's authenticity and local feel.

You won't find a lot of vegetarian options on the menu (a lot of emphasis on ham) but it's the best fondue I've found in the area. Generally, they'll make it to match the number of people that are ordering. If you visit for dinner, listen for the (huge) animated music box to go off in the corner and play some traditional music. Also look for the giant cow bell hanging from the ceiling. Its a relaxed atmosphere to spend the time with friends and/or work colleagues.

The place is well located, clean and swiss by all means where locals meet. The menu contains several tasty and well cooked and presented countryside dishes at fair swiss prices. We tasted salads, boudin sausage, liver, langue de boeuf, steak and desserts at a proper quantity and quality. Service was impeccable, helpful and fast with a asmile. A place not to miss. We have been enjoying the fondue at this local treasure since the early 1990's. It is always a treat and extremely consistent, whether they are quiet or busy. It cosy and feels like home every time we go there.

The fondu was good, but I don't have much to compare it too (need to experiment more with the Swiss fondu). The people there don't speak English, but the tried hard to help me out, that counts go something!

Discovered once via TripAdvisor it's now part of every trip to south west of Switzerland. I still can't read the menu and google helps a lot, but it's worth a stop by every time. Excellent food and service! Reserva una mesa ahora
