"little gem in quaint village of gueberschwihr, elsass we stayed in guerberschwihr shortly before Christmas, and all restaurants (and most hotels) were closed for the season! next to the grand place we found the foie gras shop and the adjacent restaurant that was still opened, we had the plate du jour, both made from very fresh Alsatian vegetables and deer meat, as well as very reasonable in the price. even if they do not like foie gras, this restaurant is highly recommended!"

We visited Le Goldert on a cold, rainy Tuesday night and were the only customers the entire time we were there. This would seem like a bad sign, except the small town was completely deserted as we walked a few blocks from our rented apartment...to the restaurant. As seems to be common in our French experience, it was at first a bit difficult to tell if the proprietors were happy to have our business on a slow night or inconvenienced when we walked in the door. Things warmed up though and we shared a pitcher of local wine and both ordered the recommendation' from the board: scallops (coquilles saint-jacques). This was one of the few seafood dishes we encountered on our trip and what a happy find! The scallops were large and seared, served in a ring surrounding a rice pilaf, all on top of a creamy tomato-y tarragon sauce. Absolutely wonderful! The only weak spot of our entire experience was completely a personal weakness, rather than one of the restaurant (and hence the 5-star rating). Le Goldert has won prizes for its foie gras and it was prominently featured across the menu (which is also fine just not my thing and thus we stayed away from it when ordering). Prior to our meal's arrival, the waitress brought us each a small plate of three different types of foie gras. Not wanting to be rude, we ate most of it (my hubs helped me with mine thank goodness). I had trouble getting past the concept but if I am truly honest, it was pretty good. I could see why they have won numerous awards for their foie gras (though I don't think I will be eating much of it in the future

A friend recommended a shop in a small alsacien village, where wondrful foie gras was to be had. So we went there, and bought outstanding stuff. Also we discovered that next door and belonging to the same Maison Metzler was a restaurant with a very...promising menu. So we booked a table for dinner. And what a dinner we had! Everything was perfect. Great ingredients prepared with loving care. We chose the gourmet meny, which at 53 euros including wine for every course, was nearly a steal. To start we had a generous slice of delicious foie gras decorated with a rose cut from a ripe tomato. Then came fish soft and tasty rainbow trout on a bed of risotto and creamy saffron sause. Lovely. We still had enough room for the filet of beef with wine sauce, sauteed mushrooms, vegetables, and potato gratin. And the pudding was heavenly. Apple puree ind a purse of extremely thin and crispy mille feuille, and a vanilla ice to die for. The accompanying wines were nearly all local, as the village is well known for its Alsacian wines. Very good they were too. Very friendly and efficient cervice made this a wonderful farewell dinner for a cauple of friends. We`ll be back!

if they love foi gras or simply want to try, then this is the place to go. the restaurant focused on this speciality and they do it to perfection. we had the foi grass menu, and it was delivered as promised. A...foi gras amuse bouche, which is supposed to be chefs claim to be famous: smoked duck breast filled with duck foi gras excellent! then 4 different for gras terrines as appetizer, followed by a main consisting of duck breast with fried foi gras on the top. the menu consisted of geese and ente foi gras and offered a chance to taste the different and different types of preparations. then followed a dessert of 4 different small portions, which was almost too much after all foi grass. the food was excellent, service perfect and the restaurant very cozy. all in a great evening.

We were in this lovely restaurant as part of our day with Colmar e-bike Tour. The food is typical but changes the traditional Alsatian gastronomy, a way to revisit the Alsatian cuisine. My wife and I were delighted. Also the restaurant is in a quaint...little village on the wine road, not far from Eguisheim (small village not to be missed). Upon our arrival at the restaurant we tasted a glass of Crmant ros (sparkling wine), then a plate garnished (different products around the duck and some raw vegetables salads) with a glass of wine and finally a coffee. After the meal we continued our tour with electric bike. A very good restaurant address !
