Well this is a regular haunt for our first evening in Beaune. We always book before arrival to ensure a table. Eating outside on the pavement is such a classic way to start our holiday in France.The main attractions here are the delicious cheesy choux pastries that arrive pre-dinner. They are definitely cooked fresh and in-house. We also gobble up the deeply arromatic and tender boeuf bourguignon. This is served in a big pot with noodles on the side. Never fails to hit the spot. Le Gourmandin also has a great wine list.Service can be a little hit and miss but we are never in a rush on holiday...they could be a little more cheerful though!
We should have known it was not going to be a great night when they tried to put us at a back room table alone instead of in the bustling front room. The food was very good but the wine menu was ridiculously expensive. The big complaint however was the obnoxious waiter who seemed in charge of all that night. If you are looking for a warm, friendly dining experience try someplace else. French customer service has improved since we were last there 30 years ago, but this restaurant did not get the email.
The "gourmet" set menu was a disappointment. The entree salad lettuce was not fresh, the supreme de volaille was overcooked, and the dessert was a horrible trio consisting of a scoop of insipid vanilla ice cream, a shot glass of chocolate mousse (you find better from the prepackaged refrigerator case at Monoprix) and a shot glass of something citrus that one small bite was enough to abandon the remainder.
I'm somewhat surprised at the negative reviews for this restaurant as my friends and I have recently dined here and really enjoyed the food. Maybe a good thing I did not see these reviews beforehand. The food was pretty classic, so no real surprises there. The winner of the evening was the Boeuf Bourguignon though, packed with flavours.

Ate here while staying at a nearby hotel. It was just two of us - my 9 year old son and I. We were welcomed in a very friendly manner and shown to our table. The meal was delicious and we loved everything we had. Highly recommended.
Our entrees came and both of us had ordered the beef from the white cow Charlais . It was tough and overcooked. This was one of the most expensive meals at this restaurant. In short I could not recommend this restaurant to anyone
The name of the restaurant has changed. It's still just as excellent as all the other reviewers has said. Wonderful local stewed beef. Local wine by the glass was excellent. The waitress was friendly and spoke excellent English.
It's a great place with character, food is great and so is the wine list , service is fun and no one is too serious accept the food.to me the narrow restaurant exudes charm and character. A real gem.

By far our favorite place in Beaune. Fabulous food and a good wine list in a busy, fun atmosphere with friendly service. We have been here five times over two visits and have never been disappointed.
a true French bistro with atmosphere and excellent food - reasonably priced with great service. Would return for sure.
